EASTON, Mass. (May 2, 2010, 2010) – The Stonehill College women’s outdoor track and field team took third place at the 2010 Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at W.B. Mason Stadium on the Stonehill campus this weekend. The Skyhawks finished with 141 points overall, while NE-10 champions Southern Connecticut State University posted 227.50 points and the University of Massachusetts Lowell took second with 168.

Freshman Olivia Dyson (Reading, Mass./Reading Memorial) led the way for Stonehill, earning individual titles in two events in her first NE-10 Outdoor Championship meet. She started the day by winning the javelin throw with a school and facility-record throw of 130’05” – just .24-meters shy of provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Division II Championship later this month. She broke her own school record of 126’02” set last weekend at the Skyhawk Invitational, where the previous facility record of 128’08” was also set by Lauren Berg of Boston University.

Freshman Danielle Scaglione (Somersworth, N.H./Somersworth) finished fourth in the javelin, which saw the Skyhawks take four of the top six spots in that event, with a throw of 114’02”. Sophomore Kamilia Drogosz (Unionville, Conn./Farmington) was fifth at 112’09” and classmate Erica Insel (Clinton, N.J./Vorhees) sixth at 111’10”.


Sophomore Christen Carrier provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in Charlotte later this month while winning the NE-10's 800-meter championship. She also ran a leg on Stonehill's NE-10 champion 4x400 relay team.

Dyson also came within .06-meters shy of provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Championships in the high jump with her NE-10 title-winning height of 5’03.75” – breaking the previous school-record of 5’03” set by Colleen Carmen at the 2008 Skyhawk Invitational and matched by Dyson herself at UMass Lowell’s George Davis Invitational last month. Dyson placed tenth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.05-seconds.

Dyson also ran a leg on Stonehill’s 4x100-meter relay team that placed third with a time of 50.85. Also running for the Skyhawks were juniors Danielle Wheeler (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) and Angela Miller (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) and sophomore Vlada Shelkova (Newington, Conn./Newington).

Sophomore Christen Carrier (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Central) won the NE-10 championship for the 800-meter run with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 2:14.38. She also set a new school record, breaking the previous mark of 2:16.66 set by Dana DeIngenis at the 2005 New England Championships at Brown University. Alexis Monahan (Swoyersville, Pa./Holy Redeemer) was eighth in the event with a time of 2:23.07.

Carrier, Wheeler and Shelkova, along with senior Kathryn O’Leary (Rensselaer, N.Y./Columbia) all ran Stonehill to the NE-10 championship in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:03.32.

O’Leary also earned All-Conference honors with her second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:05.44, while Wheeler finished eighth in 1:13.51.


Freshman Jessica Jarrard won the NE-10 10,000-meter title, establishing a facility mark in that event.

Freshman Jessica Jarrard (Shrewsbury, Mass./Hudson Catholic) won the 10,000-meter championship with a time of 40:26.76, establishing a facility record in the event’s debut at W.B. Mason Stadium. Sophomore Kristen Mahoney (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) took fourth in 41:44.09.

Monahan, junior Lindsay Booth (Franklin, Mass./Franklin), sophomore Jill Alves (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson) and freshman Lynley Joynt (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) all earned All-Conference honors as part of Stonehill’s 4x800-meter relay team which placed second in 9:45.23.

Shelkova placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 17’00.50” and sixth in the triple-jump with a distance of 34’05”.

Joynt also placed sixth in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:49.65.

Other highlights for Stonehill include:

Freshman Caroline McBride (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) placed third in the 5000-meter run with a time of 18:55.22. Freshman Stephanie Wilson (Wayzata, Minn./Hopkins) finished fifth in 19:17.69, while classmate Jessica Kilpatrick (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) took eighth in 21:19.67.

Freshman Kristen Veit (Easthampton, Mass./Holyoke Catholic) finished third in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:34.72. Classmate Erin Carmone (Riverside, R.I./East Providence) placed fifth in 11:42.38.

Senior Meghan Rocha (Nashua, N.H./Bishop Guertin) placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 117’08”. She was also sixth in the hammer throw with a distance of 129’02”.

Sophomore Maura Ferrarini (Springfield, Mass./Springfield Cathedral) placed fourth in the high jump with a leap of 4’09.75”.

Freshman Kathryn Bernazzani (Norwood, Mass./Norwood) finished fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a school-record time of 15.47-seconds, after qualifying for the finals with a run of 15.60-seconds. She broke her own school-record of 15.54-seconds set last weekend at the Skyhawk invitational. Bernazzani also placed eighth in the triple jump with a distance of 34’00.25”.

Stonehill returns to action this weekend, when it takes part in the New England Championships, hosted by Northeastern University in Dedham, Mass., Friday and Saturday.
