Reading, Mass., native honored for second time after record-setting meet

EASTON, Mass. (April 28, 2010) – Stonehill College freshman Olivia Dyson (Reading, Mass./Reading Memorial) has been named the Northeast-10 Women’s Field Athlete and Freshman of the Week by the Conference office.

Dyson, named Freshman of the week for the second time in three weeks this season, also earns her first Athlete of the Week honor after leading Stonehill to a third-place showing at Friday’s Skyhawk Invitational. She placed second in the javelin throw with a school-record throw of 126’02”, breaking her own previous record of 125’5” set at the Bryant University Invitational on April 4. Dyson also took fourth in the high jump with a height of 5’1” and was seventh in the 100-meter dash in a personal-best 13.01-seconds.

Dyson has enjoyed a record-breaking start to her collegiate career. In addition to her javelin record, she matched the school’s high jump mark of 5’03” to place third overall at UMass Lowell’s George Davis Invitational on April 10. She has finished second twice in the high jump in five meets this spring (Worcester Championships & Bryant), second in the javelin twice (UML & Skyhawk) in four meets and has a pair of fourth-place finishes in the 100-meters (Worcester & Bryant) in three meets.

During the indoor season, Dyson set a school-record for the high jump with her height of 5’3.75” to earn All-Conference honors at the Northeast-10 Championships on February 18. She also ran a personal-best time of 28.29-seconds for a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash at the Wheaton College Invitational.

The women’s track and field team is back in action on Saturday for the 2010 Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Stonehill at W.B. Mason Stadium starting at 9 a.m.
