BOSTON, Mass. (February 19, 2010) - The Stonehill College women's indoor track and field team, ranked third in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II East Regional rankings, finished second at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, hosted by the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center, tonight.

Stonehill compiled 111 points to finish behind only champions University of Massachusetts Lowell's 137 points. Southern Connecticut State University was third (108 points) and the University of New Haven fourth (69).

First-year standout Erin Carmone (Riverside, R.I./East Providence) was named the Northeast-10's Women's Freshman Athlete of the Year, after capturing a pair of NE-10 titles on the night. It marks Carmone's second Freshman of the Year award after she also collected the NE-10 honor for cross country this past fall. Tonight, she won the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:34.46. Classmate Jessica Jarrard (Shrewsbury, Mass./Hudson Catholic) came in second out of 11 runners with a time of 10:39.91.

Junior Lindsey Pinkham (Skowhegan, Maine/Skowhegan) was also an individual winner for Stonehill, capturing the 800-meter title with an NE-10 Championships record time of 2:17.64, qualifying for next week's New England Championships in the process. She broke the previous meet record of 2:17.93 set by UMass Lowell's Haley Catarius in 2008. Sophomore Susan O'Connell (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich) finished fourth in the event in 2:19.38.

Junior Lindsey Pinkham won the 800-meter run championship, while also running a leg in the 4x800.

Carmone and Pinkham both also ran a leg in Stonehill's 4x800-meter relay team which captured the NE-10 Championship with a time of 9:48.43. Joining the duo on the team were sophomores Jill Alves (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hansen) and Vlada Shelkova (Newington, Conn./Newington).

Stonehill's 4000-meter distance medley relay team fell just shy of capturing the NE-10 title, posting a time of 12:47.67 to finish just .20 behind Adelphi's relay team for the championship. Running the event for the Skyhawks was junior Lindsey Booth (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) and freshmen Sarah Burke (South Yarmouth, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth), Kristen Veit (Easthampton, Mass./Holyoke Catholic) and Lynley Joynt (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland).

Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay team was also runner up with a program-record time of 4:01.97. Running for the Skyhawks were Kathryn O'Leary (Rensselaer, N.Y./Columbia), junior Danielle Wheeler (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) and sophomores Susan O'Connell (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich) and Christen Carrier (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Central). The team broke the school-record for the third-straight week, surpassing its time of 4:02.61 set at last weekend's BU Valentine's Invitational.

Freshman Olivia Dyson (Reading, Mass./Reading) placed second in the high jump with a program-record height of 5'3.75". She broke the previous school record of 5'3" set by Sharon Golankiewicz at the New England Championships in 2005. She also finished tenth in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.59-seconds.

Other results for Stonehill included:

Burke and fellow freshman Kathryn Bernazzani (Norwood, Mass./Norwood) both qualified for the final in the 55-meter high hurdles. Bernazzani, who qualified with a time of 8.85-seconds in the prelims, placed fifth in the final in 8.79-seconds. Burke, who qualified with a time of 8.96-seconds in the prelims, finished sixth in the final in 9.01-seconds.

Bernazzani also finished fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 33'10".

Carrier and O'Leary placed third and fourth, respectively in the 500-meter run. Carrier turned in a time of 1:18.71, qualifying for the New England Championships, while O'Leary posted a time of 1:18.99.

Alves finished third in 1000-meter run with a time of 2:58.89, also qualifying for the New England Championships. Booth placed sixth in 3:06.80.

Sophomore Kristen Mahoney (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) and freshmen Caroline McBride (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) and Stephanie Wilson (Wayzata, Minn./Hopkins) placed third, fourth and fifth, respectively in the 5000-meter run. Mahoney posted a time of 18:37.61, followed by McBride in 18:50.85 and Wilson in 19:07.95.

Joynt, Veit and Jarrard placed fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively in the mile run. Joynt posted a time of 5:15.20, while Veit finished in 5:16.26 and Jarrard in 5:18.99.

Senior captain Meghan Rocha (Nashua, N.H./Bishop Guertin) placed fifth in the weight throw with a program-record distance of 39'5". She broke her own school-record of 39'3.72" set at the Wheaton Invitational last month.

Sophomore Erica Insel (Clinton, N.J./Vorhees) placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 35'1.75".

Wheeler finished eighth in the 400-meter dash in 1:03.24.

Shelkova placed tenth in the long jump with a leap of 16'04.50". She was ninth in the triple jump with a distance of 32'8.25".

Stonehill is back in action next Friday and Saturday, February 26 and 27, for the New England Championships.
