Carmone Named NE-10 Track Freshman of the Week

Riverside, R.I., native collects first indoor award after All-America cross country season

EASTON, Mass. (February 2, 2010) - Stonehill College newcomer Erin Carmone (Riverside, R.I./East Providence) has been named the Northeast-10 Women's Track Freshman of the Week by the Conference office this afternoon.

Carmone earns the award for the first time after she led Stonehill at Friday's Reebok Boston Collegiate Indoor Games with a fifth-place finish out of 50 competitors in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:12.95. That time is the second-best at that event among Northeast-10 runners this season.

Carmone, competing in her second indoor event after earning All-America honors in her first collegiate cross country season this fall, ran the mile in her indoor collegiate debut the previous week at the Wheaton College Invitational. Her time of 5:16.13 is the sixth-fastest time among NE-10 runners this season in that event.

Carmone became just the fourth All-American in the history of the women's cross country program this fall as her 23rd-place finish at the NCAA Championships with a time of 21:33.7 over six-kilometers. She was also named Division II East Region Women's Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), after capturing the regional title with a time of 22:16.5 over 6K at the regional, Northeast-10 Conference Freshman of the Year and first team All-Northeast-10 after placing second and the NE-10 Championships (18:23.2, 5K) in her collegiate debut after injuries kept her out of most of the Skyhawks cross country season.

Stonehill is back in action this Saturday when it competes at the Tufts University Stampede at the Gantcher Family Sports & Convocation Center.
