Jarrard Named NE-10 Track Freshman of the Week

Shrewsbury, Mass., native collects first award after 5000-meter victory

EASTON, Mass. (January 27, 2010) - Stonehill College newcomer Jessica Jarrard (Shrewsbury, Mass./Hudson Catholic) has been named the Northeast-10 Women's Track Freshman of the Week by the Conference office this week.

Jarrard collects her first NE-10 weekly award after helping Stonehill to a third-place finish at the Wheaton College Invitational on Saturday. She placed first in the women's 5000-meter run with a time of 18:14.02 - 13.76 seconds faster than the second-place finisher and the best time for that event by an NE-10 athlete this season. The Skyhawks dominated the race, placing five runners in the top ten.

It marked the second collegiate indoor event for Jarrard, who was also a key member of Stonehill's NCAA Regional and NE-10 Champion women's cross country team. She placed sixth in the 3000-meter run in her indoor collegiate debut at the Harvard Invitational on December 12, posting a time of 10:57.98.

Jarrard competed in seven of Stonehill's eight cross country events in her first collegiate season, including all four championship meets. She earned second team All-Northeast-10 Conference honors with her tenth-place finish (19:20.5) in helping the Skyhawks capture their eighth Conference title. Jarrard also placed 16th at the NCAA East Regional (23:38.4) to help Stonehill claim its eighth regional crown.

Stonehill is back in action with a pair of events this weekend. The Skyhawks will compete at the Reebok Collegiate Indoor Games at the Reggie Lewis Center on Friday night, as well as the BU Terrier Classic at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center on Friday and Saturday.
