Thomas Heads Strong Day
Two for Stonehill
at Larry Ellis Invitational
All-American posts top ten finishes in both high jump and 110-meter hurdles
PRINCETON, N.J. (April 18, 2010) – The Stonehill College men’s and women’s outdoor track and field team enjoyed a strong day two at the Larry Ellis Invitational, hosted by Princeton University, at Weaver Stadium on Saturday.
Freshman Corey Thomas (Brookline, Mass./BC High) placed second to Princeton senior Justin Frick (Freehold, N.J./Freehold) in the high jump, clearing 6’09.75”. Thomas cleared each of the first four heights without missing, but was unable to match Frick’s jump of 6’11.50”. The two out-jumped the field by three inches. Frick needed multiple jumps at 6’6.75” and 6’9.75”, but was able to clear the winning height on his first attempt to edge Thomas, a Division II indoor All-American for the high jump.
Thomas also finished seventh out of 40 entries in the 110-meter hurdles, breaking his own school-record for the third-straight week with a time of 14.72-seconds. The lone non-Division I athlete entered in the event, Thomas broke his previous school-record time of 14.75-seconds set with his winning performance at the George Davis Invitational at UMass Lowell last weekend.
Senior Kathryn O’Leary (Rensselaer, N.Y./Columbia) placed eighth out of 25 entries in the 400-meter hurdles with her time of 1:04.83, breaking her own school record of 1:05.08 set at the Worcester City Championships on March 27. She was also first among the three non-Division I athletes in the event.
Sophomore Jill Alves (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson) placed eighth out of 24 entries in the 1500-meter run with her personal-best time of 4:48.75, first among non-Division I runners in the event.

Sophomore Christen Carrier (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Central) placed 11th out of 47 entries in the 800-meter run with her time of 2:16.67 – just .01 shy of the school-record mark of 2:16.66 set by Dana DeIngenis at Brown University on May 6, 2005. Carrier was also first among non-Division I athletes in the race.
On Friday, freshman Erin Carmone (Riverside, R.I./East Providence) highlighted day one at the event for Stonehill as she placed 17th out of 56 entries in the 5000-meter run with a time of 17:34.65, which ranked fourth among non-Division I collegiate runners in the event.
Junior Patrick Fullerton (Bradford, Mass./Haverhill) finished 52nd out of 73 runners in the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:57.00, good for sixth among non-Division I collegiate entries.
Freshman Sean Hanlon (Georgetown, Mass./St. John’s Prep) placed 67th out of 80 entries in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.72, good for ninth among non-Division I collegiate entries.
Junior Daniel Fidler (Carlisle, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) led two Stonehill entries in the men’s 5000-meter run with a time of 15:00.03 to place 78th overall, out of 99 overall competitors, good for 12th among non-Division I collegiate entries. Sophomore Stephen Polito (Worcester, Mass./Doherty Memorial) finished 84th overall, 14th among non-Division I collegiate entries, with a time of 15:05.15.
The remaining members of the Stonehill men’s and women’s track and field teams will be competing at the Holy Cross Invitational on Sunday starting at 11 a.m. Stonehill will be hosting events each of the next two weeks, with the Skyhawk Invitational at W.B. Mason Stadium on Thursday night starting at 4 p.m. Stonehill will host the Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Championships for the first time on Saturday, May 1, starting at 9 a.m.
