Smithfield, R.I. - Freshmen Christen Carrier (Manchester, N.H.) and Vlada Shelkova (Newington, Conn.) each claimed individual victories helping Stonehill open its outdoor season with a solid performance at the at the Bryant University Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Smithfield, Rhode Island.

Carrier had a busy day, winning the 400 meter dash and then leading the 4x400 meter relay team to a second place finish behind Holy Cross.

Shelkova, meanwhile had a long jump of more than 16 feet to receive top honors in that event.

Freshman Susan O'Connell (East Greenwich, Conn.) turned in an eleventh place finish in the 1,500 meters but was the first non-Division I competitor to cross the finish line.

Another standout performance for the Skyhawks came from Kathryn O'Leary (North Greenbush, N.Y.), who finished second in the 400 meter hurdles (1:08.66).

Senior Kristina Coriaty (Brockton, Mass.) was fifth in the 800 meters (2:25.57), while sophomore Colleen Carmen (Drexel Hill, Pa.) was fourth in the high jump.

Stonehill returns to action on Saturday when it hosts the second annual Skyhawk Invitational at W.B. Mason Stadium.
