HANOVER, N.H.-- The Stonehill men's outdoor track and field team posted its highest team finish ever at the New England Championships over the weekend at Dartmouth College, as the Skyhawks placed fifth of 36 teams competing with a score of 45.5 points as the top Division II entrant in the field.

Senior Brandon Beloin (Danielson, Conn.) became the first individual New England champion for Stonehill in the process, as he took top honors in the 400 meter hurdles by breaking his own school record with a time of 53.10 in the event, just missing the NCAA automatic qualifying mark and provisionally qualifying for the upcoming Division II national championships. Beloin capped his standout weekend by helping the 4 X 400 relay team earn all-New England honors as well, as he teamed with fellow seniors Vinnie Williams (Springfield, Mass.) and Derek Hebert (Rockland, Mass.) as well as junior Thomas Woods (Medfield, Mass.) to set a school record in the event with a time of 3:17.65. Junior David Metzger (Ellington, Conn.) also provisionally qualified for the NCAA national championships in the 5,000 meters, posting a school record time of 14:37.58 that was good for third and an all-New England award.

Williams also copped a pair of individual all-New England accolades himself for Stonehill, as he placed fourth in the 100 meters (10.91) and sixth in the 200 meters (21.67), while fellow senior Dana Burbank (North Andover, Mass.) earned all-New England honors in the 110 meter hurdles with a school record time of 15.35 that was good for seventh place. Hebert placed eighth in the 800 meters with a time of 1:53.81 to cop all-New England accolades, while junior Dickie Gerry (Bow, N.H.) also earned all-New England honors in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:53.78, provisionally qualifying for the NCAA championships as well. Freshman Joe D'Agostino (Canton, Mass.) was sixth in the high jump for the Skyhawks with a mark of 6 feet, 5 inches to earn all-New England honors, while the 4 X 100 relay team also placed fifth to earn an all-New England award for Stonehill.

On the women's side, senior Dana DeIngenis (Cranston, R.I.) set a school record for the Skyhawks in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:36.43 to earn all-New England accolades and improve her NCAA provisional qualifying time in the process, while sophomore Jenny Gardynski (Everett, Mass.) shattered her own school record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:36.57.

Individual qualifiers for the 2007 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be announced by the NCAA Track & Field Committee on Tuesday evening, as the championships begin on Wednesday, May 23rd in Charlotte, N.C.
