SMITHFIELD, R.I.-- The Stonehill men's outdoor track and field team posted its highest finish ever in the Northeast-10 Conference Championships on Saturday afternoon, as the Skyhawks finished as runner-up to Southern Connecticut in this year's event hosted by Bryant. The Stonehill women placed fourth in the final team competition as well.

Sophomore Joe Ryan (Chelmsford, Mass.) was crowned individual champion in the 5,000 meters for Stonehill as he posted a time of 15:26.86 in the event, while David Morse also earned league champion accolades in the javelin with a mark of 54.02 meters. Sophomore Keith Gill (Brockton, Mass.) and junior Tim Catoggio (Bradford, Mass.) placed second in the 800 meters and 3,000 meter steeplechase, respectively, with times of 1:54.43 and 10:04.15, while the tandem of sophomore Thomas Woods (Medfield, Mass.) and juniors Dana Burbank (North Andover, Mass.) and Brandon Beloin (Danielson, Conn.) placed 2-3-4 in the 400 meter hurdles. Burbank added a third place finish in the 110 meter hurdles (15.44) for the Skyhawks, who also received third place performances from sophomore David Metzger (Ellington, Conn.) in the 1,500 meters (4:06.65) and freshman Matt Meagher (Mansfield, Mass.) in the 10,000 meters (34:29.41). The men's 4 X 400 relay set a school record in the event with a second place time of 3:22.77, while the 4 X 100 relay finished third overall.

Stonehill posted 102.5 points on the day to finish behind only Southern Connecticut's total of 262.5 points, as UMass Lowell was third with 94 points in the men's competition.

On the women's side, senior Erin Smith (Brockton, Mass.) earned the league individual championship in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:34.96, while juniors Dana DeIngenis (Cranston, R.I.) and Kelly Chaisson (Walpole, Mass.) placed second in the 800 meters and 5,000 meters, respectively, with times of 2:17.03 and 19:09.70. Junior Maura Williams (Ellington, Conn.) and freshman Jenny Gardynski (Everett, Mass.) added third place performances in the 400 meter hurdles and 3,000 meters, respectively, with times of 1:07.54 and 10:54.18, while the 4 X 400 relay team also set a school record in the event (4:06.42). The Skyhawk women collected 72 points on the day, as UMass Lowell took the team title over runner-up Southern Connecticut by 10 points.

Both Stonehill squads will compete at their respective all-New England Championships next weekend at M.I.T., with competition set to take place on both Friday and Saturday.
