Women's 4 X 800 Relay Earns All-New England Accolades For Outdoor Track At 2006 New England Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- The Stonehill men's outdoor track and field team recorded its highest finish ever at the New England Championships over the weekend, as the Skyhawks placed 13th among 36 entrants in the 2006 event that took place at M.I.T.'s Steinbrenner Stadium.

Sophomore Keith Gill (Brockton, Mass.) placed fifth overall in the 1,500 meters to lead the way for Stonehill, posting a time of 3:55 to earn all-New England accolades. The trio of juniors Brandon Beloin (Danielson, Conn.) and Dana Burbank (North Andover, Mass.) as well as sophomore Thomas Woods (Medfield, Mass.) earned all-New England honors in the 400 meter hurdles in placing 5-6-7 in the event, as all three ran under the school record time, with Beloin posting a new school best mark of 54.13 seconds. Freshman Torrey Price (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) and junior Vinnie Williams (Springfield, Mass.) ran 7-8 in the 100 meters for the Skyhawks to also earn all-New England honors, posting times of 10.94 and 11.00 flat, respectively.

Sophomore David Metzger (Ellington, Conn.) also earned all-New England accolades in the 5,000 meters for Stonehill, posting a time of 15:04.86, while the Skyhawk 4 X 100 relay team of Williams, Price, sophomore Daniel Richter (Bedford, Mass.) and freshman Chris Palmer (Fort Worth, Tex.) finished tied for seventh in the event with a time of 43.03 to earn all-New England recognition.

On the women's side, the 4 X 800 relay team of junior Dana DeIngenis (Cranston, R.I.), sophomores Amanda Carnevale (Stony Point, N.Y.) and Mary Donovan (Sudbury, Mass.) and freshman Jenny Gardynski (Everett, Mass.) finished eighth in the competition with a time of 9:55 to earn all-New England honors for their efforts.

Gill and DeIngenis have qualified provisionally for the NCAA championships in the men's and women's 1,500 meters, respectively, while senior Erin Smith (Brockton, Mass.) has qualified provisionally in the NCAA women's 3,000 meters as well. Individual selections for the upcoming NCAA Division II national championships, which begin on May 23rd in Emporia, Kan., will be announced on Tuesday afternoon.
