Chieftain Mentor Earns Indoor Honor For First Time In Career After Guiding Program To Second Place Finish At Northeast-10 Championships

Easton, Mass.-- Stonehill College Head Women's Indoor Track Coach Karen Boen has been named as the 2005 NCAA Division II Northeast Regional Coach of the Year by the Division II National Track Coaches Association for her efforts during the 2004-2005 campaign.

Boen guided the Chieftains to a second place finish at the 2005 Northeast-10 Conference Championships, the highest in the program's history, and also led her squad to an 18th place team finish at the All-New England Championships, the highest in school history in that event. Boen also coached a pair of individual qualifiers for the 2005 NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships last weekend at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, as senior Dianna Chivakos (South Hamilton, Mass./Hamilton-Wenham) and junior Erin Smith (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) each competed for the national crown in the 5,000 meters.

Boen has now garnered Coach of the Year honors in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track during her career at Stonehill, as she guided the Chieftain men's and women's cross country squads to their respective Northeast-10 titles last fall. Additionally, she was tabbed as the 2004 Northeast-10 Women's Outdoor Track Coach of the Year last spring and has a total of 13 Coach of The Year accolades on an already impressive resume.
