SMITHFIELD, R.I.-- Both Stonehill outdoor track and field teams posted strong performances at the Bryant Invitational on Saturday afternoon, as the Chieftain men finished second with a team score of 113 points while the Stonehill women were third overall (first among Division II squads) with a team total of 98 points in competition at the Bryant Track Complex.

Senior Dianna Chivakos (South Hamilton, Mass.) was a double winner on the day for the Chieftain women, as she took first place in both the 1,500 meters and the 5,000 meters with times of 4:42.97 and 18:48, respectively and qualified for the all-New England Championships in the 1,500 meters. Senior Tracy Tabacco (Methuen, Mass.) took top honors in the triple jump with a mark of 34 feet, 8 ½ inches, while junior Erin Smith (Brockton, Mass.) and sophomores Colleen Burbank (Dedham, Mass.) and Dana DeIngenis (Cranston, R.I.) all recorded second place performances for Stonehill in the 1,500 meters (4:51), long jump (15 feet, 10 inches) and 800 meters (2:21), respectively. The women’s 4 X 400 relay team of DeIngenis, sophomore Maura Williams (Ellington, Conn.) and freshmen Amanda Carnevale (Stony Point, N.Y.) and Melissa Tozeski (Holden, Mass.) placed second as well with a time of 4:15.26.

On the men’s side, freshmen Keith Gill (Brockton, Mass.) and Richard Gerry (Bow, N.H.) placed first in the 800 meters (1:57.7) and 1,500 meters (4:00.50), respectively, while senior Sotirios Pintzopoulos (North Reading, Mass.) and sophomore Dana Burbank (North Andover, Mass.) placed second in the 100 meters (11.17) and 110 meter hurdles (15.76), respectively. Freshman Thomas Woods (Medfield, Mass.) was third in the 400 meter hurdles with a school record time of 57.03, while the Chieftain 4 X 400 relay team of Gill, Gerry, junior Paul Viggiano (Trumbull, Conn.) and sophomore Vinnie Williams (Springfield, Mass.) placed second with a time of 3:28.57.

Both Stonehill squads return to action next Saturday morning at the UMass Lowell George Davis Invitational in Lowell, Mass. beginning at 10:00 a.m.
