Four Skyhawks secure singles and doubles wins on the day
EASTON, Mass. (April 14, 2021) – Stonehill College, ranked No. 8 in the most recent Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Region rankings, kept rolling with a 7-0 victory over Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action on Charles Watt Tennis Courts this afternoon.
Highlights
- Senior Isabelle Porter, junior Samantha Ormesher and sophomores Cristina Solorzano Valencia and Steffi Antao were all double-winners to lead Stonehill to its fourth-straight win and back within a game of second place in the NE10 standings with two matches to play.
- Junior Emma Markaryan also earned a point for Stonehill with a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 4 singles against Assumption sophomore Aimee Figgins.
How it Happened
- Solorzano Valencia and Antao clinched the doubles point for Stonehill with their 6-3 victory at No. 1. The Skyhawks earned a win at No. 3 doubles by default, while Porter and Ormesher added a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles.
- Stonehill also earned a singles point by default and then Antao pulled the Skyhawks within a point of the match win with her 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles against Assumption freshman Caitlin Sze.
- Ormesher clinched the match win for Stonehill without dropping at game at No. 5 singles against Assumption freshman Jessica Crosby.
- Markaryan and Porter rounded out wins for Stonehill at No. 4 and No. 3 singles, respectively.
- Solorzano Valencia, ranked No. 6 in the Oracle/ITA Division II East Region singles rankings, battled in the match of the day against Assumption senior Julia Chappell, securing a 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 1 singles.

Noteworthy
- Markaryan is now 24-2 over her career in NE10 singles matches after today's win. She has posted a career singles record of 33-9, including her 6-1 mark this spring, having won her last four singles matches.
- Ormesher has also won her last four singles matches after today, improving to 4-1 on the spring. She is now a combined 48-27 in singles and doubles play over her career, including a combined 40-13 in the NE10.
- Porter and Ormesher are 5-1 this spring as a doubles tandem and are now 14-8 as a pairing over their careers.
- Porter is now a combined 68-38 over her career in singles and doubles play after her two wins today.

Stonehill (6-2, 6-2 NE10) is scheduled to return to action on Sunday, for a key NE10 clash at Le Moyne College, ranked No. 5 in the Oracle/ITA East Region rankings, in a rematch of the 2019 NE10 Championship, in Syracuse, New York. Spectators will not be permitted to attend by the NE10 COVID-19 attendance policies. The Skyhawks return home next Thursday, April 22, for a Senior Day match against Saint Michael's College at 3 p.m. Assumption (2-5, 2-5 NE10) visits American International College on Friday at 12:30 p.m.
