Women's Tennis Bounces Back at Bentley, 7-0


Solorzano Valencia posted wins at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles this afternoon

Four double-winners lead Skyhawks to NE10 win

WALTHAM, Mass. (October 6, 2019) – Stonehill College, ranked No. 4 in the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Region rankings, bounced back with a 7-0 triumph over Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action in a match played on the campus of Brandeis University this afternoon.

Freshman Cristina Solorzano Valencia led four double-winners for Stonehill with victories at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles. She and senior Annelise Howick helped the Skyhawks sweep the three doubles matches with their 6-0 shutout at No. 2. Solorzano Valencia followed that up with a 6-4, 6-1 singles decision over Bentley sophomore Alessa Matuty.

Senior Caroline Ray did not drop a game in cruising to wins at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. She and freshman Steffi Antao rolled to a 6-0 doubles win, before Ray posted a 6-0, 6-0 win against Bentley freshman Miruna Constantin. Antao was also a double-winner for the Skyhawks, adding a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles against freshman Grace Bennett.

Sophomore Samantha Ormesher rounded out the double-winners for Stonehill. She and junior Isabelle Porter opened with a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, and then Ormesher breezed to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles against sophomore Cindy Luo. Senior Alexandra Vo and sophomore Emma Markaryan also picked up singles wins for the Skyhawks at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively.

Stonehill (7-1, 7-1 NE10) returns to action on Friday, when it hosts a simultaneous doubleheader with the men's team at Charles Watt Tennis Courts against University of District of Columbia at 11 a.m. Bentley (3-7, 2-7 NE10) visits Roger Williams University on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
