Solorzano Valencia had a role in two key points for the Skyhawks today

EASTON, Mass. (September 21, 2019) – Stonehill College, ranked No. 4 in the most recent Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, returned to Northeast-10 Conference play and picked up right where it left off, posting a 5-2 victory over Assumption College in women's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this afternoon.

Freshman Cristina Solorzano Valencia was the lone double-winner for Stonehill, playing a role in two key points as the Skyhawks notched their 26th-straight NE10 regular season dual match win. With Stonehill and Assumption splitting the first two doubles decisions, Solorzano Valencia and senior Annelise Howick found themselves down 2-4 at No. 2 doubles, before reeling off the next four-straight to clinch the win and doubles point for the Skyhawks. Solorzano Valencia then provided the match-clinching fourth point for Stonehill with her 6-0, 6-3 triumph at No. 2 singles against Assumption senior Maria Monje.

Junior Isabelle Porter  and sophomore Samantha Ormesher teamed up for a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles for Stonehill. Senior Alexandra Vo, ranked No. 15 in the Oracle/ITA Division II East Region singles rankings, posted the Skyhawks first singles win with her 6-1, 6-0 decision over freshman Aimee Figgins, while sophomore Emma Markaryan cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles against junior Valeria Sanchez to pull the Skyhawks within a point of the win. Freshman Steffi Antao rounded out the Skyhawk winners on the afternoon in straight sets at No. 4.

Sophomore Ana Escudero was a double-winner for Assumption. She teamed up with junior Veronica Op for a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles for the Greyhounds. Escudero followed that up by rallying from a set down for a 5-7, 6-2, 10-7 decision at No. 6 singles over Ormesher. Junior Julia Chappell, the reigning NE10 Player of the Year, also won a point for the Greyhounds with her 6-4, 6-2 win against Porter, ranked 13th in the Oracle/ITA East Region singles rankings, at No. 1 singles.

Stonehill (2-0, 2-0 NE10) is right back in action tomorrow, when it visits Saint Michael's College for an NE10 match at noon. The Skyhawks return to Watt Courts on Wednesday, to host American International College at 3 p.m. Assumption (2-1, 2-1 NE10) hosts Le Moyne College tomorrow at noon.
