Women's Tennis Sends Two Doubles Parings to Quarters at USTA/ITA East Regional

Solorzano Valencia and Howick defeated the #1 overall seed on its way to the doubles quarterfinals

Solorzano Valencia and Vo also reach singles round of 16

FLUSHING, N.Y. (September 15, 2019) – Stonehill College has two doubles pairings and two singles standouts playing into Sunday at the USTA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional at the USTA/Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

Stonehill's doubles pairings of junior Isabelle Porter and freshman Steffi Antao, seeded 6th overall, along with junior Annelise Howick and freshman Cristina Solorzano Valencia have both advanced to Sunday's quarterfinals. The bad news is the two Skyhawk pairings will square off against one another for a chance to match the deepest ITA run in program history. Stonehill will see a doubles pairing reach the semifinals for the third-straight year.

Howick and Solorzano started the day with an 8-1 second round win over Estefania Castrillon and Sofia Bellucco from the University of the District of Columbia. The duo then made their mark by dumping the overall top-seed, Josefina Torres Martin and Angelica Karlsson Hantzis from Concordia (N.Y.) College, 8-5 in the Round of 16. Porter/Anteo posted an 8-2 win in the second round against Goldey Beacom University's Erin Anderson and Aino Klintrup, before cruising past Himani Mor and Liria Loria from Franklin Pierce University, 8-2, in the Round of 16.

Solorzano Valencia and senior Alexandra Vo have advanced to Sunday in the singles championship for Stonehill. Solorzano Valencia started with a 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 triumph over Mor of Franklin Pierce in the first round on Saturday. She followed that up by rallying past Ruth Artaza Martin from Queens (N.Y.) College, 6-7, 6-1, 10-3 in the second round.

Vo, seeded eighth in the championship, had a first round bye and then rallied from a set down for a 3-6, 6-3, 10-5 win in the second round. Porter, seeded seventh, was upset in the second round after receiving a first round bye, while sophomore Samantha Ormesher fell in the first round after emerging from Friday's qualifiers, along with Solorzano Valencia.
