Porter leads five double-winners for Skyhawks

EASTON, Mass. (April 12, 2019) – Stonehill College, ranked a program-best No. 38 in this week's Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II poll, continued its spring tune up ahead of the upcoming NCAA Tournament with a 6-1 victory over Division I College of the Holy Cross in non-conference women's tennis action on Charles Watt Tennis Courts tonight.

Sophomore Isabelle Porter led five double-winners for Stonehill with her wins at No. 1 singles and doubles. The East Region's No. 12-ranked singles player rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Holy Cross senior Allison Reiling that pulled the Skyhawks within a point of the match win. Porter and freshman Emma Markaryan teamed up for an 8-5 doubles win. Markaryan also registered a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles against sophomore Katya Martin for the Skyhawks first singles win.

Junior Annelise Howick picked up the match-clinching win for Stonehill with her 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles against senior Jennifer Kary. Howick and classmate Alexandra Vo picked up the Skyhawks first doubles point with their 8-2 decision at No. 2. Vo was also a double-winner for Stonehill with her 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles over freshman Maddie DeNucci.

Senior Nicole Downey rounded out the double-winners for Stonehill. She teamed up with junior Caroline Ray to clinch the doubles point for the Skyhawks with their 8-0 win at No. 3. Downey, who has now posted a combined 96 wins in singles and doubles play over her Stonehill career, followed that up with a win at No. 4 singles.

Senior Caroline Kam earned the lone point for Holy Cross with her victory at No. 6 singles.

Stonehill (14-4, 11-0 NE10) closes out its spring schedule at Brandeis University on Sunday at 10 a.m. Holy Cross (8-11, 0-5 Patriot) hosts Merrimack College tomorrow at noon.
