EASTON, Mass. (October 23, 2018) – Stonehill College freshman Emma Markaryan has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week for women's tennis, the league office announced today.

Markaryan earns the weekly honors for the first time after helping lead Stonehill to a 2-0 week, posting both match-deciding points at No. 4 singles as the Skyhawks posted a 7-0 win at Assumption College on Friday and then closed out the NE10 regular season slate with a 5-2 triumph at Southern New Hampshire University, ranked No. 10 in the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region rankings on Saturday. She cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Assumption's Camille Latoni on Friday, followed by grinding out a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 win against SNHU's Lior Pachuorkovski on Saturday.

Markaryan is a combined 12-2 so far in her first collegiate season, posting an 11-1 singles record that includes a perfect 10-0 in the NE10. She is 6-0 at No. 5 singles, while also claiming wins at No. 3 (2-0) and No. 4 (3-0). Markaryan has split her two doubles matches played this fall, teaming up with junior Caroline Ray for an NE10 win. She enters this week's NE10 Tournament with a team-leading 11-straight singles wins.

Markaryan matriculated to Stonehill after graduating from Suncoast Community High School in Riviera Beach, Florida. She was a four-year letterwinner for coach Arnie Schlichter, earning Team MVP honors all four years. Markaryan played No. 1 singles all four years, leading the team to a 44-5 record in her career, including a perfect 13-0 as a sophomore. She earned a Universal Tennis Rating of 8.0 and was ranked No. 280 nationally for the Class of 2018 by tennisrecruiting.net.

Stonehill (11-1, 11-0 NE10), ranked No. 42 in the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II national rankings, captured its third-straight NE10 regular season championship, finishing a second-straight NE10 regular season with an undefeated mark. The Skyhawks are the top seed for this week's NE10 Tournament and will host a semifinal match on Friday against the winner of Wednesday's first round matchup between No. 4 Le Moyne College and No. 5 University of New Haven at 1 p.m. The NE10 Championship match will be played on Sunday at the home court of the highest remaining seed at 1 p.m.
