Skyhawks cap second-straight unbeaten NE10 regular season with 24th-straight NE10 win

MANCHESTER, N.H. (October 20, 2018) – Stonehill College, ranked No. 42 in the most recent Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II rankings, closed out its second-straight unbeaten Northeast-10 Conference regular season slate with a 5-2 triumph over Southern New Hampshire University, ranked No. 10 in the Oracle/ITA East Region rankings, in NE10 women's tennis action this afternoon.

Stonehill (11-1, 11-0 NE10) heads into next week's NE10 Tournament winners of 24-straight regular season Conference dual matches dating back to 2016. The Skyhawks have capped the NE10 regular season with a perfect record for the second-straight year and sixth time in program history overall, winning the NE10 regular season championship for the third-straight year and ninth time in program history. Stonehill will be the top seed for the NE10 Tournament and await the winner of Wednesday's first round matchup between No. 4 Le Moyne College and No. 5 University of New Haven, which will be played in Syracuse, New York, at 1 p.m. The Skyhawks will host the New Haven/Le Moyne winner for an NE10 semifinal at Charles Watt Tennis Courts next Friday, October 26, at 1 p.m. Southern New Hampshire sees its fall schedule come to a close with a 7-7 record overall, including 6-5 in the NE10, missing out on the NE10 Tournament for the first time since 2004.

Senior Nicole Downey was the lone double-winner for Stonehill in the win. She combined with junior Caroline Ray for the Skyhawks lone doubles win with a 6-4 decision at No. 3 Downey followed that up with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles against Southern N.H. senior Rachel Wagner .

SNHU held the advantage after earning the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2, but Stonehill took five of six singles matches to clinch the victory. Freshman Emma Markaryan provided the clinching point for the second-straight day for the Skyhawks, defeating SNHU freshman Loir Pachuorkovski, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 at No. 4 singles. Junior Alexandra Vo started the Skyhawks singles run with her 6-1, 6-3 triumph at No. 2 singles against senior Sofia Morais. Freshman Samantha Ormesher also picked up an impressive win at No. 3 singles against freshman Alexxa Etienne, 7-5, 6-3.

Senior Anna Sala was a double-winner for SNHU. She combined with Morais, as the No. 5-ranked doubles team in the region, to defeat No. 9 Vo and junior Annelise Howick, 6-1, in a matchup of regionally-ranked doubles teams. Sala, ranked No. 19 in the Oracle/ITA East Region singles rankings, followed that up with a 6-7 (7-5), 6-2, 10-5 triumph at No. 1 singles against No. 15 Isabelle Porter in another regionally-ranked battle.
