Skyhawks run NE10 win streak to 23 matches in clinching third-straight regular season crown

WORCESTER, Mass. (October 19, 2018) – Stonehill College, ranked No. 42 in the most recent Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II rankings, clinched its third-straight Northeast-10 Conference regular season championship outright, after cruising to a 7-0 victory over Assumption College in NE10 women's tennis action at Assumption Tennis Courts today.

Stonehill enters next week's NE10 Tournament as the top seed for the third-straight year, having won 23-straight NE10 regular season match dating back to 2016. The Skyhawks have now won three-straight NE10 regular season titles, giving the program nine regular season crowns in program history overall. Senior Nicole Downey, sophomore Isabelle Porter and freshman Samantha Ormesher were all double-winners in leading the Skyhawks to the win.

Downey and junior Caroline Ray clinched the doubles point for Stonehill with their 6-4 decision at No. 3. Downey later added a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles against Assumption sophomore Valeria Sanchez. Freshman Emma Markaryan provided the match-clinching point for the Skyhawks with her 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles against junior Camille Latoni.

Porter and Ormesher notched a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles for Stonehill. Porter, ranked No. 15 in the Oracle/ITA East Region singles rankings, added a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles against senior Paige Benoit, while Ormesher defeated junior Maria Monje at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-2. Juniors Alexandra Vo and Annelise Howick also picked up singles points for the Skyhawks.

Benoit and sophomore Julia Chappell teamed up for a 7-5 triumph at No. 1 singles for Assumption against Vo and Howick, ranked No. 9 in the Oracle/ITA East Region doubles rankings.

Stonehill (10-1, 10-0 NE10) closes out its NE10 regular season schedule tomorrow, when it visits Southern New Hampshire University, ranked No. 10 in the Oracle/ITA East Region rankings, at 1 p.m. The Skyhawks will host an NE10 Tournament semifinal match next Friday, October 26, at 1 p.m. Assumption (8-4, 7-4 NE10) has earned an NE10 Tournament bid and will play a first round match on Wednesday.
