Skyhawks clinch 20th-straight NE10 regular season win by dropping just four games all match

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 6, 2018) – Stonehill College, ranked No. 42 in the most recent Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II rankings, bounced back from Friday's non-conference setback for a 7-0 sweep of American International College in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action at Forest Park Tennis Courts today.

Sophomore Isabelle Porter led four double-winners for Stonehill as it won its 20th-straight NE10 regular season match dating back to 2016, dropping just four games in total over the nine matches played today. Porter teamed up with classmate Bethany Hammond for a 6-1 decision at No. 1 doubles as the Skyhawks won all three doubles matches for the opening point of the match. Porter, ranked No. 15 in the Oracle/ITA East Region rankings, followed that up with a 6-1, 6-1 win over AIC sophomore Meri Jimeno-Vicente at No. 1 singles.

Senior Nicole Downey and junior Caroline Ray teamed up for a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles that clinched the doubles point for Stonehill. Downey and Ray followed that up with identical 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively.

Freshman Samantha Ormesher rounded out the four double-winners for Stonehill, combining with junior Alexandra Vo for a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles. Ormesher then provided the match-clinching point for Stonehill with her 6-0, 6-0 win against AIC freshman Cecilia Salazar at No. 2 singles. Freshmen Emma Markaryan and Anastasiya Shyianok also posted singles wins for the Skyhawks.

Stonehill (7-1, 7-0 NE10) returns to action on Wednesday, when it hosts Merrimack College for Senior Day at Watt Courts at 3 p.m. AIC (0-9, 0-8 NE10) visits Assumption College tomorrow at 11 a.m.
