#42 Women's Tennis Breezes Past Saint Anselm, 6-1

Porter and Ormesher lead Skyhawks to 18th-straight NE10 regular season win

MANCHESTER, N.H. (September 29, 2018) – Stonehill College, ranked No. 42 in the most recent Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II rankings, picked up its 18th-straight regular season Conference win with a 6-1 victory over Saint Anselm College at South Athletic Field Courts this afternoon.

Sophomore Isabelle Porter and freshman Samantha Ormesher led a group of four double-winners for Stonehill this afternoon. Porter and sophomore Bethany Hammond teamed up to lead a sweep of the three doubles matches, from which the Skyhawks dropped just a single game overall, with their 6-0 win at No. 1. Porter, ranked No. 15 in the Oracle/ITA East Region singles rankings, followed that up with a commanding 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles against Saint Anselm senior Tess Malerbi.

Ormesher and junior Alexandra Vo combined for a 6-1 decision at No. 2 doubles for Stonehill. Ormesher followed with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles against junior Kaitlin Hughes. Senior Nicole Downey and junior Caroline Ray were also double-winners for the Skyhawks, starting with their 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles. Downey added a point at No. 4 singles, while Ray won at No. 5. Freshman Emma Markaryan also picked up a point for the Skyhawks with her 6-1, 6-0 win over senior Lexi Stathis at No. 3 singles.

Senior Kayla Hodas earned Saint Anselm's lone point by rallying from a set down to take the second 7-5 against Stonehill junior Anastasiya Shyianok at No. 6 singles, and then win the third set tiebreaker, 10-7.   

Stonehill (5-0, 5-0 NE10) is right back in action tomorrow, when it hosts its Purple & White Match against rival Bentley University at Charles Watt Tennis Courts at noon. Saint Anselm (2-7, 1-5 NE10) hosts Franklin Pierce University tomorrow at 2 p.m.
