EASTON, Mass. (April 11, 2018) – Stonehill College freshman Bethany Hammond (Belgrade, Maine/St. Dominic's) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week for women's tennis by the league office today.

Hammond earns NE10 Rookie of the Week honors for the first time after posting a pair of wins in Stonehill's lone match of the week against NCAA Division III No. 21 Brandeis University on Thursday. She teamed up with sophomore Caroline Ray (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) for a commanding 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles against the Judges' Haley Cohen and Michele Lehat. Hammond followed that up by battling back from a set down for a 3-6, 6-4, 11-9 decision at No. 5 singles against Brandeis' Lauren Bertsch.

Hammond has posted a combined 12-5 record in singles and doubles play during her first collegiate season at Stonehill. She has posted a 10-3 doubles record, including 8-0 in the NE10, with three different playing partners, while splitting her four singles matches to date. Hammond and Ray are 2-0 as a team, including an NE10 win, also posting an 8-1 mark while paired with senior Colleen O'Donnell (Waterville, Maine/Waterville), including 7-0 in the NE10.

Stonehill (14-4, 12-0 NE10), regular season champions of the NE10, is ranked No. 4 in this week's NCAA Division II East Regional rankings and a program-best No. 42 in this week's Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II national rankings. The 2018 NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championships field will be announced on Tuesday, April 24, at 8:30 p.m. The Skyhawks are seeking their 12th NCAA Tournament bid.
