Toronto, Ontario, product to become program's first Canadian born student-athlete

EASTON, Mass. (December 15, 2017) – Stonehill College women's tennis head coach Marc Maloney, the Northeast-10 Conference Coach of the Year, has announced that Samantha Ormesher, a native of Toronto, Ontario, and a product of Loretto Abbey Catholic Secondary School in North York, Ontario, and the Nick Saviano High Performance Tennis Academy, in Plantation, Florida, has signed a National Letter of Intent during the early signing period to attend the College as a member of the Class of 2022.

Ormesher, who is set to become the first Canadian-born student-athlete in the history of the Stonehill women's tennis program, has earned a Universal Tennis Rating of 8.25, is the No. 107-ranked Canada Open Women's Singles player and ranked No. 1,532 in the International Tennis Federation rankings. She has been coached by Marcus Fluitt at the Saviano Tennis Academy, Tyler Prescott of the North York (Ontario) Tennis Association and Greg Novak at the Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club.

Ormesher, who intends to major in health science at Stonehill, is the daughter of Marlane and Thomas Ormesher. She is the youngest of three children, with siblings Lindsay and Dylan, and lived in Hong Kong at one point.

Stonehill, ranked No. 5 in the most recent Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, finished the fall season with a 14-1 record overall, including a 12-0 mark in the NE10 to win its second-straight NE10 regular season championship and eighth overall, on its way to a fourth straight appearance in the NE10 Championship match. The Skyhawks will announce their spring schedule in the coming weeks.
