Skyhawks fourth-year head coach earns recognition for first time in his career

NE10 Women's Tennis Postseason Awards Announcement

EASTON, Mass. (October 26, 2017) – Stonehill College women's tennis head coach Marc Maloney has been selected as the Northeast-10 Conference Coach of the Year by his peers, the league announced.

Maloney has guided Stonehill to its second-straight NE10 regular season championship with a perfect 13-0 record overall, including 12-0 in the NE10. In leading the Skyhawks to their eighth NE10 regular season title in program history, overall, the team finished the league regular season schedule unbeaten for the fifth time in program history, the first time since 2009. Stonehill is the top seed for this week's NE10 Tournament as it seeks its first postseason title since his first season at the helm in 2014.

Maloney is the first Stonehill mentor to earn NE10 Coach of the Year honors since soon to be inducted Stonehill Athletic Hall of Famer Pam Arpe collected her second award in 2009 and is the third Stonehill head coach to receive the honor. In addition to the NE10 regular season championship, Maloney led a program-best performance at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional in Flushing, New York, in late September as senior Victoria Barbetta (Wesley Chapel, Florida/Saddlebrook Prep) and freshman Isabelle Porter (Jupiter, Florida/William T. Dwyer) made the deepest run at the event in program history by reaching the semifinal round of the doubles championship. Porter and sophomore Alexandra Vo (Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania/Nazareth Academy) each reached the singles championship Round of 16, marking the deepest singles run in program history.

Maloney has led Stonehill to a 55-25 (.688) record overall, including a 43-5 (.896) mark in NE10 play, with two NE10 regular season championships and one NE10 Tournament crown. The Skyhawks have earned three-straight NCAA Tournament bids with Maloney and will be in good position to make it four in a row heading into the spring season with the strong fall season to date.

Top-seeded Stonehill (13-0, 12-0 NE10) opens NE10 Tournament play tomorrow, when it hosts fifth-seeded Le Moyne College (13-4, 8-4 NE10) at Charles Watt Tennis Courts at 1 p.m. The NE10 Championship match is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m., at the home courts of the highest remaining seed.
