Doubles Sweep Powers Women's Tennis Past Merrimack, 6-3


O'Donnell improved to 26-0 over her career in NE10 singles matches and also earned a doubles win.

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (October 11, 2017) – Stonehill College, ranked No. 6 in the latest Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, has won its first nine matches of the season for the first time dating back to at least 2004 after posting a 6-3 decision over Merrimack College in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action at North Andover High School today.

Senior Colleen O'Donnell (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) and sophomore Alexandra Vo (Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania/Nazareth Academy) both maintained undefeated career NE10 singles marks and led Stonehill with singles and doubles wins for the afternoon. Vo teamed up with sophomore Annelise Howick (Jacksonville, Florida/Creekside) for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles as the Skyhawks swept the three doubles matches to fuel the win. Vo followed that up with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Merrimack junior Mana Seifaei (North York, Ontario/East Haig) at No. 2 doubles to improve to 19-0 in NE10 singles matches over her two seasons at Stonehill.

O'Donnell and freshman Bethany Hammond (Belgrade, Maine/St. Dominic's) combined for an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles, before O'Donnell improved to 26-0 over her career in NE10 singles play with a 6-4, 6-1 win over sophomore Mia Briggs (York, Maine/York) at No. 5 singles. Senior Emma Prinos (Foxborough, Massachusetts/Foxborough) added a straight-sets win at No. 6 singles for the Skyhawks, while senior Victoria Barbetta (Wesley Chapel, Florida/Saddlebrook Prep) and freshman Kate Cunningham (Somerset, England/IMG Academy (Fla.)) won at No. 2 doubles.

Senior Danielle Dunn (Middleton, Massachusetts/Masconomet), junior Lauren Persson (Barnstable, Massachusetts/Barnstable) and freshman Cassie Restrepo (Miami, Florida/Westminster Christian School) all posted singles wins to account for Merrimack's points in the match.

Stonehill (9-0, 8-0 NE10) returns to action on Saturday, when it hosts Assumption College for an NE10 matchup at Charles Watt Tennis Courts at 3 p.m. Merrimack (6-5, 6-5 NE10) closes out its regular season schedule when it hosts Saint Anselm College on Friday at 3 p.m.
