Women's Tennis Wins Big Against SNHU, 7-2

Vo leads three double-winners for Skyhawks at No. 2 singles and doubles

EASTON, Mass. (October 3, 2017) – Stonehill College, ranked No. 6 in the latest Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, remained perfect on the season with a commanding 7-2 victory over Southern New Hampshire University, ranked No. 7 in the region, in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this afternoon.

Sophomore Alexandra Vo (Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania/Nazareth Academy) led the way for Stonehill, which is off to a 7-0 start for the first time since the 2012-13 season when it opened 8-0, by earning points at No. 2 singles and doubles. She teamed up with classmate Annelise Howick (Jacksonville, Florida/Creekside) to clinch a 2-1 Skyhawks edge after doubles play, with their 8-6 decision at No. 2. Vo followed that up by cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 singles win against Southern New Hampshire junior Kaitlyn Poje (East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania/East Stroudsburg South).

Senior Colleen O'Donnell (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) and freshman Kate Cunningham (Somerset, England/IMG Academy (Fla.)) also collected two points each for Stonehill. The duo teamed up for an 8-0 victory at No. 3 doubles. O'Donnell followed that up with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles against sophomore Abbey Killiam (Rowley, Massachusetts/Triton Regional), while Cunningham coasted to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 over sophomore Catherine LaChance (Wilbraham, Massachusetts/Minnechaug Regional).

Freshman Isabelle Porter (Jupiter, Florida/William T. Dwyer) won the deciding point for Stonehill with her 6-0, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles against SNHU freshman Casey Burns (Westbrook, Connecticut/Westbrook). Junior Nicole Downey (Groveland, Massachusetts/Pentucket Regional) also won a point for the Skyhawks at No. 4 singles.

Junior Anna Sala (Matadepera, Spain) played a role in both points for Southern New Hampshire. She teamed up with Burns to avoid a Stonehill doubles sweep with their 8-6 decision at No. 1 and then collected a 6-1, 6-1 win over senior Victoria Barbetta (Wesley Chapel, Florida/Saddlebrook Prep (Fla.)) at No. 1 singles.          

Stonehill (7-0, 6-0 NE10) returns to the courts on Saturday, when it hosts American International College for an NE10 match on Senior Day at Watt Courts at 1 p.m. Southern N.H. (5-2, 5-2 NE10) visits Le Moyne College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
