Women's Tennis Powers Past Holy Cross, 6-1

Vo leads Skyhawk double-winners at No. 2 singles and doubles

WORCESTER, Mass. (September 12, 2017) – Stonehill College, ranked No. 6 in the most recent Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, closed out a 6-1 victory over NCAA Division I College of the Holy Cross in non-conference women's tennis action at Sinnott Family Tennis Facility today.

Senior Colleen O'Donnell (Waterville, Maine/Waterville), sophomore Alexandra Vo (Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania/Nazareth Academy) and freshman Isabelle Porter (Jupiter, Florida/William T. Dwyer) all earned both singles and doubles wins to lead Stonehill to the win. Vo and classmate Annelise Howick (Jacksonville, Florida/Creekside) teamed up for an 8-4 decision at No. 2 doubles and then the reigning NE10 Rookie of the Year cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles against Holy Cross freshman Katya Martin.

O'Donnell and freshman Bethany Hammond (Belgrade, Maine/Saint Dominic's) combined for an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles as Stonehill swept the three doubles matches to earn its first point of the match. O'Donnell followed that up with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles against junior Jennifer Kary. Porter and senior Victoria Barbetta (Wesley Chapel, Florida/Saddlebrook Prep (Fla.)) teamed up for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles and then Porter collected a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles against junior Morgan McGuire. Junior Nicole Downey (Groveland, Massachusetts/Pentucket Regional) and sophomore Caroline Ray (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) each chipped in points at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Ray rallied from a set down to earn a 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 triumph.

Junior Allison Reiling earned a point for Holy Cross with her 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles against Barbetta.

Stonehill (2-0, 0-0 NE10) is back in action on Saturday when it opens its Northeast-10 Conference schedule with an NE10 Championship and NCAA Tournament rematch with Adelphi University, ranked No. 5 in the region, at Charles Watt Tennis Courts at 11 a.m. Holy Cross (0-1, 0-0 Patriot) visits Assumption College on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
