Women's Tennis Adds Two with NLIs for 2017

EASTON, Mass. (June 23, 2017) - Stonehill College women's tennis head coach Marc Maloney has announced that two more signees to National Letters of Intent for the spring signing period for the upcoming 2017-18 season.

Kate Cunningham, from Bristol, England, by way of IMG Academy in Brandenton, Florida, and Bethany Hammond, from Belgrade, Maine, and Saint Dominic Academy in Auburn, Maine, both signed NLI's during the spring signing period and join Isabelle Porter, from Jupiter, Florida, as signees for the upcoming 2017-18 season.

Kate Cunningham

Hometown: Bristol, England

High School: IMG Academy, Bradenton Florida

Achievements: Achieved a 5.2 Lawn Tennis Association rating (Britain). Competed in 7 ITF tournaments in Martinique, Scotland, Philadelphia, Cuba, South Africa and Zimbabwe 

Parents Names: Jackie and Miles Cunningham

Coaches: Weylu Chang and Paul Forsyth

Fun Fact: Has also lived in Australia, Portugal and in Switzerland. Former English Rugby player

Why I chose Stonehill: "I chose Stonehill because it was a great fit for so many reasons. First of all the people were so warm and welcoming. It already felt like home when when I drove through the gates. The campus and facilities are so beautiful and state of the art. Stonehill also has an ideal location just outside of Boston - a city which i fell in love with. The tennis program was also an ideal fit and the coach was so personable and motivating."

Bethany Hammond

Hometown: Belgrade, Maine

High School: St. Dominic Academy - Auburn, Maine

Parents Names: Mike and Amy Hammond

Coach: Reggie Hodges

Achievements: Three-Time Maine State Tournament Semifinalist, and Finalist in 2014. Three-Time MVC Player of the Year. Won a State Team Championship.

Fun facts: I like fishing, tubing, riding personal watercraft, and playing with my dogs. Sister Sadie plays for the University of Tennessee Women's Tennis team.

Why Stonehill: "I loved the small campus atmosphere during my official and unofficial visits, the exceptional business school reputation. The tennis program is at the top of Northeast-10 Conference annually. Coach Maloney and the girls made me feel welcome."

Stonehill wrapped up its 2016-17 season with a 14-7 record overall, including 11-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference, to capture the NE10 regular season championship and earn the program's 11th NCAA Tournament bid.
