Women's Tennis Wraps Up NE-10 Title Against Saint Rose, 9-0

Skyhawks clinch seventh NE-10 regular season championship outright

EASTON, Mass. (October 15, 2016) – Stonehill College, ranked No. 6 in the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, sewed up its seventh Northeast-10 Conference regular season championship outright with a 9-0 victory over The College of Saint Rose in NE-10 women's tennis action on Senior Day at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this afternoon.

Stonehill (11-2, 11-1 NE-10), which last claimed an NE-10 regular season championship in 2012 when it shared the title with Adelphi University and Southern New Hampshire University, will be the top seed for next week's NE-10 Tournament and receive a first round bye. The Skyhawks will host the winner of Wednesday's first round matchup between fourth-seeded Bentley University (8-4, 8-4 NE-10) and fifth-seeded Merrimack College (8-4, 8-4 NE-10) on Friday at Watt Courts at 1 p.m. Saint Rose (0-12, 0-12 NE-10) wraps up its fall season with this afternoon's match.

Freshman Alexandra Vo (Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania/Nazareth Academy) led Stonehill to the win as a double-winner. She and junior Victoria Barbetta (Wesley Chapel, Florida/Saddlebrook Prep) earned an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles and then Vo added a 7-5, 6-1 triumph at No. 1 singles against junior Averie Bowen (Pelham, New York/Pelham Memorial). Vo finishes the regular season with a perfect 12-0 mark in singles play.

Junior Emma Prinos (Foxboro, Massachusetts/Foxboro) and sophomore Nicole Downey (Groveland, Massachusetts/Pentucket Regional) rounded out the doubles wins on the court with an 8-1 decision at No. 2, while the Skyhawks clinched the doubles sweep by default at No. 3.

Freshman Carolina Alvarez (Orlando, Florida/Freedom) earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles for Stonehill against Saint Rose freshman Emily Farrell (Valatie, New York/Ichabod Crane). Senior Amanda DePasquale (Londonderry, New Hampshire/Londonderry) celebrated her senior day with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 over junior KeriAnn Mahoney (Shelter Island, New York/Shelter Island). Junior Janet Haas (Northbridge, Massachusetts/Northbridge) and sophomore Courtenay Cavett (Plano, Texas/Ursuline Academy of Dallas) also notched singles wins for the Skyhawks, while junior Melissa Parker (Madison, Connecticut/Daniel Hand) won at No. 6 by default.
