Women's Tennis Stays Perfect in NE-10 Play at Saint Anselm, 8-1

Skyhawks post eighth straight win behind four double-winners

MANCHESTER, N.H. (September 29, 2016) – Stonehill College, ranked sixth in the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, cruised to its eighth straight win with an 8-1 victory over Saint Anselm College in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action at South Tennis Courts this afternoon.

Stonehill had four teammates record singles and doubles wins as it remained unbeaten in Northeast-10 play and maintained its position atop the Conference standings. Juniors Emma Prinos (Foxboro, Massachusetts/Foxboro) and Colleen O'Donnell (Waterville, Maine/Waterville), sophomore Nicole Downey (Groveland, Massachusetts/Pentucket Regional) and freshman Alexandra Vo (Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania/Nazareth Academy) were the double-winners for the Skyhawks, which rode a sweep of three doubles matches to set the tone for the win.

Vo and junior captain Victoria Barbetta (Wesley Chapel, Florida/Saddlebrook Prep) teamed up for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles for Stonehill. Vo followed that up by improving to 8-0 in singles play during her first collegiate season with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles against Saint Anselm sophomore Tess Malerbi (Scituate, Massachusetts/Scituate). Downey and Prinos edged out an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles and then Downey improved to 15-1 over her career in NE-10 singles matches with a 6-1, 6-1 win against junior Meghan Golden (Scituate, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy) at No. 3 singles. Prinos added a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles against freshman Kaitlin Hughes (Rockland, Massachusetts/Cardinal Spellman) for her fifth straight singles win.

O'Donnell improved to 16-0 in her career for NE-10 singles matches with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph over freshman Caroline Templer (Andover, Massachusetts/Andover) at No. 5 singles after combining with senior captain Amanda DePasquale (Londonderry, New Hampshire/Londonderry) for an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles. Freshman Caroline Ray (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) chipped in with a straight sets win at No. 6 singles without dropping a single game to improve to 4-0 in her first collegiate season.

Junior Jess Perkins (Shrewsbury, Massachusetts/Shrewsbury) claimed Saint Anselm's point with her 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles over Barbetta.

Stonehill (8-1, 8-0 NE-10) is off until next Wednesday, October 5, when it visits the University of New Haven for a Northeast-10 match at 3:30 p.m. The Skyhawks return home on Saturday, October 15, to host The College of Saint Rose for Senior Day at noon. Saint Anselm (4-5, 3-5 NE-10) is at New Haven on Friday at noon.
