Women's Tennis Cruises Against Franklin Pierce, 9-0

Prinos doesn't drop a game in posting singles and doubles wins for Skyhawks

EASTON, Mass. (September 22, 2016) – Stonehill College, ranked sixth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, cruised to a 9-0 victory over Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this afternoon.

Junior captain Victoria Barbetta (Wesley Chapel, Saddlebrook Prep), classmate Emma Prinos (Foxboro, Massachusetts/Foxboro), sophomore Nicole Downey (Groveland, Massachusetts/Pentucket Regional) and freshman Alexandra Vo (Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania/Nazareth Academy) were all double-winners to lead Stonehill to the sweep. Prinos didn't drop a single game in singles and doubles play as she teamed up with Vo for an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles before coasting to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles against freshman Kelly O'Donnell (Maywood, New Jersey/Immaculate Heart Academy). Vo dropped just one game in a straight sets win at No. 2 singles against Franklin Pierce senior Kara Brazel (Glastonbury, Connecticut/Glastonbury).

Downey and Barbetta teamed up to edge their way to an 8-7 (7-5) decision at No. 1 doubles. Downey followed that up by rolling to a 6-0. 6-1 win at No. 3 singles against freshman Sarah Rich (Windham, Maine/Windham). Barbetta added a win at No. 1 singles when freshman Alana Wyatt (Worcester, Massachusetts/Doherty Memorial) retired with Barbetta leading 3-0 in the second set after winning the first.

Junior captain Janet Haas (Northbridge, Massachusetts/Northbridge) and freshman Caroline Ray (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) also collected singles wins for Stonehill this afternoon, while junior Melissa Parker (Madison, Connecticut/Daniel Hand) and sophomore Courtenay Cavett (Plano, Texas/Ursuline Academy of Dallas) combined for an 8-4 decision at No. 3 doubles.

Stonehill (5-1, 5-0 NE-10) is back in action on Saturday, when it visits Southern New Hampshire University, ranked seventh in the region, for a big NE-10 battle at 1 p.m. The Skyhawks return home on Saturday, October 15, to host The College of Saint Rose for Senior Day at noon. Franklin Pierce (2-7, 2-6 NE-10) hosts Saint Michael's College on Sunday at 1 p.m.
