Women's Tennis Keeps Rolling Against Le Moyne, 7-2

Barbetta and Downey are double-winners for Skyhawks

EASTON, Mass. (September 18, 2016) – Stonehill College, ranked sixth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, remained unbeaten in league play with a 7-2 victory over Le Moyne College in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts today.

Junior Victoria Barbetta (Wesley Chapel, Florida/Saddlebrook Prep) and sophomore Nicole Downey (Groveland, Massachusetts/Pentucket Regional) were both double-winners to lead Stonehill to its fourth straight win. Barbetta teamed up with freshman Carolina Alvarez (Orlando, Florida/Freedom) for an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles to seal a 2-1 Skyhawks edge following doubles play. She followed that up with a 6-3, 2-6, 10-9 decision at No. 1 singles against Le Moyne sophomore Tiffany Dun (Templestowe, Australia).

Downey and junior Emma Prinos (Foxboro, Massachusetts/Foxboro) swept their way to an 8-0 triumph at No. 3 doubles for Stonehill. Downey followed that up with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles against freshman Kim Driesen (Fayetteville, New York/Jamesville-DeWitt). Freshman Annelise Howick (Jacksonville, Florida/Creekside) clinched the match win for the Skyhawks with her 6-2, 6-3 victory over senior Christina Perry (Endwell, New York/Seton Catholic) at No. 4 singles. Junior Colleen O'Donnell (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) and freshman Alexandra Vo (Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania/Nazareth Academy) each added singles wins for the Skyhawks.

Junior Amica Benoit-Limosani (Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Quebec/College Saint-Maurice) had a hand in both Le Moyne wins today. She and Dun combined to edge out an 8-6 decision at No. 1 doubles. She followed that up with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles against Alvarez.

Stonehill (4-1, 4-0 NE-10) returns to action on Thursday when it hosts Franklin Pierce University at 3 p.m. Le Moyne (1-3, 1-3 NE-10) hosts American International College on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
