#32 Wayne State Edges Women's Tennis, 5-4

Peisachovitz leads Warriors with key wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles

WINTER Park, Fla. (March 10, 2016) – Wayne State University of Michigan, ranked 32nd in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II rankings and fifth in the ITA's Midwest Region rankings, claimed a 5-4 victory over Stonehill College, ranked sixth in the ITA East Region rankings, in non-conference women's tennis action at Fort Gatlin Tennis Center today.

Freshman Liv Peisachovitz (Vaughan, Ontario/Northview Heights) led Wayne State to the victory with key victories at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles. She combined with classmate Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia) for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles before claiming the clinching fifth point for the Warriors with her 6-3, 6-4 triumph at No. 2 singles against Stonehill senior Kirsti Toegemann (Narragansett, Rhode Island/The Lincoln School).

Seniors Alex Poissant (Laval, Quebec/Vanier Prep) and Julia Kamenko (Toronto, Ontario/Vaughan) were also double-winners for Wayne State, combining to clinch a 2-1 edge following doubles play with their 9-7 decision at No. 2. Poissant followed that up with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles against Stonehill senior Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Michigan/Marian). Kamenko also contributed a point at No. 2 singles with senior Analise Kump (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) retired after Kamenko won the first set 6-2.

Sophomore Emma Prinos (Foxboro, Massachusetts/Foxboro) was a double-winner for Stonehill. She combined with Toegemann for an 8-3 victory at No. 3 doubles and then added a 2-6, 6-3, 6-0 comeback win at No. 6 singles against Wayne State freshman Astrid Ciellza (Tecumseh, Ontario/St. Anne's). Sophomore Victoria Barbetta (Wesley Chapel, Florida/Saddlebrook Prep) contributed a 5-7, 6-1, 12-10 comeback win at No. 4 singles against sophomore Liz Ghellere (Ararangua, Brazil), while freshman Nicole Downey (Groveland, Massachusetts/Pentucket Regional) recorded a 6-4, 4-6, 10-7 back and forth decision at No. 5 singles against Kuznetsova.

Stonehill (13-6, 10-2 NE-10) closes out its spring break trip on Saturday at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida, at noon. The Skyhawks next home match is scheduled for Sunday, April 3, when it hosts College of the Holy Cross at noon. Wayne State (13-4, 8-3 GLIAC) battles Hampton University tomorrow at 11:30 a.m.
