NE-10 CHAMPIONSHIP: #1 Adelphi Captures Title Over #3 Stonehill, 5-2


Stonehill's senior class competed in three NE-10 championship matches over their careers.

Kump and Toegemann collect All-Tournament honors for Skyhawks 

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (October 25, 2015) – Top-seeded and regular season champion Adelphi University captured its first Northeast-10 Conference Tournament Championship with a 5-2 victory over third-seeded Stonehill College, ranked sixth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, at Hempstead Lake Indoor Tennis Center this afternoon.

Adelphi (15-0, 12-0 NE-10), which joined the NE-10 in 2009, captured the tournament championship in their second finals appearance since joining the Conference. The Panthers also earn he NE-10's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament next spring. Stonehill wraps up its fall season with a 13-4 record overall, including 10-2 in the NE-10. The defending champion Skyhawks were making their NE-10 record tenth appearance in the championship match, seeking a sixth title today.

Sophomore Stefani Lineva (Middle Village, New York/Forest Hills) posted wins in both doubles and singles play to lead Adelphi to the championship and earn a spot on the All-Tournament team. She provided the deciding point with her 6-4, 6-3 victory over Stonehill senior Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Michigan/Marian) at No. 1 singles. Lineva and freshman Karen Serina (East Islip, New York/East Islip) also combined for an 8-3 decision at No. 1 doubles for the Panthers.

Sophomore Rebecca Fakas (Little Neck, New York/Benjamin N. Cardozo) and freshman Elena Nastasi (Mill Neck, New York/Locust Valley) provided Adelphi with a key 2-1 edge following doubles play with their 8-6 decision at No. 3. Sophomore Elizabeth Kallenberg (Port Washington, New York/Paul D. Schreiber), the NE-10 Tournament MVP, posted a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Stonehill senior Kirsti Toegemann (Narragansett, Rhode Island/The Lincoln School) at No. 2 singles. Freshman Samantha Perri (Floral Park, New York/Floral Park Memorial), who was also named to the All-Tournament team, registered a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles against freshman Nicole Downey (Groveland, Massachusetts/Pentucket Regional).

Senior co-captain Analise Kump (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth), who was joined on the All-Tournament team for Stonehill by Toegemann, was a double-winner to lead the Skyhawks this afternoon. She and sophomore Victoria Barbetta (Wesley Chapel, Florida/Saddlebrook Prep) teamed up for Stonehill's lone doubles point with an 8-6 decision at No. 2 against Perri and Kallenberg. Kump followed that up with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Serina at No. 3 singles.
