Women's Tennis Wins Second Straight at Saint Michael’s, 7-2


Senior Kirsti Toegemann earned wins at No. 2 singles and doubles today.

Toegemann and Barbetta lead Skyhawks to road win 

COLCHESTER, Vt. (September 26, 2015) – Stonehill College, ranked sixth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, posted a 7-2 victory over Saint Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action at SMC Tennis Courts today.

Senior Kirsti Toegemann (Narragansett, Rhode Island/The Lincoln School) and sophomore Victoria Barbetta (Wesley Chapel, Florida/Saddlebrook Prep) both posted wins in singles and doubles play to lead the way for Stonehill. The duo combined for an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles as the Skyhawks took two of the three matches in doubles play. Toegemann followed that up with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles against Saint Michael's junior Nicole Kellogg (Burnt Hills, New York/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), while Barbetta claimed a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles against senior Alexandra Sulkin (Ipswich, Massachusetts/Ipswich).

Freshman Nicole Downey (Groveland, Massachusetts/Pentucket Regional) improved to 11-0 in singles play in her first collegiate season with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5 against sophomore Amelia Weeks (Clinton, Washington/South Whidbey). Sophomores Emma Prinos (Foxboro, Massachusetts/Foxboro) and Melissa Parker (Madison, Connecticut/Daniel Hand) each added singles wins for the Skyhawks at No. 4 and No. 6, respectively. Prinos defeated junior Colleen O'Keefe (Malvern, Pennsylvania/Great Valley) 6-0, 6-3, while Parker picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win against freshman Melissa Collins (Medford, Massachusetts/Matignon). Senior Caitlin McKinney (Braintree, Massachusetts/Braintree) and freshman Courtenay Cavett (Plano, Texas/Ursuline Academy of Dallas) teamed up for an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles for Stonehill.

Senior Erica Bundrick (Mattituck, New York/Mattituck) earned singles and doubles wins for Saint Michael's. She and Kellogg combined for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles before Bundrick added a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles.

Stonehill (6-2, 4-1 NE-10) is back on the courts on Thursday when it hosts American International College for an NE-10 matchup at Charles Watt Tennis Courts at 3 p.m. Saint Michael's (2-5, 2-5 NE-10) hosts Franklin Pierce University tomorrow at noon.
