NCAA II Women's Tennis Championships Announcement

EASTON, Mass. (April 28, 2015) – Northeast-10 Conference Champion Stonehill College earned an automatic bid to the 2015 NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championships back in October, and has learned its long-awaited seeding for the East Regional with the NCAA selection committee announcement tonight.

Stonehill (13-7, 10-2 NE-10), making its ninth NCAA Tournament appearance in program history and sixth bid over the last seven seasons after a one year hiatus, is seeded sixth for the East Regional. The Skyhawks will face third-seeded and host Queens (N.Y.) College (15-4, 7-1 ECC), ranked 33rd in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II rankings, for a first round match on Saturday. The winner will advance to face second-seeded and No. 26-ranked Concordia (N.Y.) College (15-5, 8-0 CACC), the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference regular season and tournament champions, on Sunday at Queens College. Queens, which finished as runners up during both the regular season and East Coast Conference tournament, earned one of three at large bids to the East Regional. Match times for this weekend's matches will be announced on Wednesday.

Top-seeded and No. 10-ranked New York Institute of Technology (19-4, 8-0 ECC) will host the other East Regional bracket and await the winner of a first round match between fourth-seeded and No. 37 Goldey-Beacom College (17-4, 7-1 CACC) and fifth-seeded and No. 34 Chestnut Hill College (16-8, 6-2 CACC). The winners of the two East Regional brackets will advance to the NCAA Championships in Surprise, Ariz., at Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex from May 13-16.

Stonehill, under the direction of first year head coach Marc Maloney, earned the Northeast-10's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with its 5-3 victory over Merrimack College in the championship match back on October 26 at Charles Watt Tennis Courts. The NE-10 Championship is one of seven won by Stonehill teams this year and the fifth in program history.
