#30 Wellesley Rallies Past Stonehill in Singles, 6-3

Skyhawks win two of three doubles matches 

WELLESLEY, Mass. (April 18, 2015) – Wellesley College, ranked 30th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III rankings, bounced back after dropping two of three doubles matches to claim a 6-3 victory over Northeast-10 Conference Champions Stonehill College, ranked seventh in this week's NCAA Division II East Regional rankings, in non-conference women's tennis action this afternoon.

Senior Sojung Lee (Seoul, Korea) and sophomore Carina Chen (Hong Kong) led Wellesley to the win by earning victories in both singles and doubles play. The ninth-ranked doubles team in the Division III Northeast Region by the ITA earned the Blues lone doubles point with an 8-1 decision at No. 1 doubles. Lee, ranked 21st in the Division II Northeast, added a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles against Stonehill freshman Victoria Barbetta (Wesley Chapel, Florida/Saddlebrook Prep). Chen posted a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles against freshman Emma Prinos (Foxboro, Massachusetts/Foxboro).

Senior Meryl Lawrence (North Scituate, Rhode Island/Mount Saint Charles Academy) and sophomore Amanda DePasquale (Londonderry, New Hampshire/Londonderry) teamed up for an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles for Stonehill. Freshmen Colleen O'Donnell (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) and Corrie MacLean (Trumbull, Connecticut/Trumbull) earned the Skyhawks second doubles point with their 8-5 triumph at No. 3. Sophomore Lorraine Smith (Littleton, Colorado/D'Evelyn) earned Stonehill's singles point with her back and forth 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 decision over Wellesley sophomore Andjela Stojkovic (Victoria, British Columbia/Brentwood College) at No. 5 singles.

Sophomore Caroline Dickensheets (Alpharetta, Georgia/Alpharetta) and freshmen Caroline Hsu (Boca Raton, Florida/Saint Andrew's School) and Emily Olson (La Jolla, California/The Bishop's School) all contributed singles points for Wellesley. Dickensheets rallied from a set down to defeat DePasquale 5-7, 6-1, 10-8 at No. 6.

Stonehill (13-7, 10-2 NE-10) returns to action on Monday, April 27, when it visits Endicott College for its final spring tune-up at 2 p.m. The Skyhawks have already earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Championships in May as a result of their NE-10 Championship won last fall. Wellesley (14-7, 7-1 NEWMAC) closed out its spring season with today's match.
