Mee and Matthews lead Spartans to win 

TAMPA, Fla. (March 11, 2015) – University of Tampa, ranked No. 45 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II national rankings, posted an 8-1 victory over Stonehill College, ranked sixth in the ITA East Region rankings, in non-conference women's tennis action at Naimoli and Young Family Tennis Complex this afternoon.

Senior Kelsey Matthews (Indian Hill, Ohio/Indian Hill) and junior Kristen Mee (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) led Tampa to the win as double-winners on the afternoon. The duo combined for an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles as the Spartans swept the three doubles matches on their way to victory. Mee added a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles against Stonehill freshman Victoria Barbetta (Wesley Chapel, Florida/Saddlebrook Prep), while Matthews, the 18th-ranked singles player in the South Region by the ITA, posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 against freshman Emma Prinos (Foxboro, Massachusetts/Foxboro).

Sophomore Lorraine Smith (Littleton, Colorado/D'Evelyn) picked up Stonehill's point when Tampa freshman Gianna Pinasco (Lima, Peru) retired to injury with the match tied 2-2 in the first set.

Stonehill (13-5, 10-2 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday, March 28, when it visits Division I College of the Holy Cross for a non-conference clash at noon. The Skyhawks have already earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Championships in May as a result of their NE-10 Championship won last fall. Tampa (5-5, 0-3 SSC) hosts Texas A&M-Kingsville on March 18 at 3p.m.
