Aquinas Defeats Stonehill, 9-0

Bhatia leads four double-winners for the Saints 

ORLANDO, Fla. (March 10, 2015) – Aquinas College of Michigan posted a 9-0 victory over Stonehill College, ranked sixth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, in non-conference women's tennis action today.

Senior Ankita Bhatia, ranked eighth in the ITA's NAIA East Regional rankings, and Lea Jansen led four double-winners for Aquinas. Bhatia combined with Tiffany Touri for an 8-4 win against senior Meryl Lawrence (North Scituate, Rhode Island/Mount Saint Charles Academy) and freshman Emma Prinos (Foxboro, Massachusetts/Foxboro) at No. 1 doubles. Bhatia followed with a come-from-behind 3-6, 6-3, 10-2 triumph over Stonehill freshman Victoria Barbetta (Wesley Chapel, Florida/Saddlebrook Prep) at No. 2 singles. Touri also recorded a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles against sophomore Amanda DePasquale (Londonderry, New Hampshire/Londonderry).

Jansen teamed up with Remington Gerst to edge Barbetta and sophomore Lorraine Smith (Littleton, Colorado/D'Evelyn) at No. 2 doubles. Jansen added a 6-0, 6-0 win over Prinos at No. 1 singles, while Gerst topped Lawrence 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3.

Stonehill (13-4, 10-2 NE-10) is right back in action tomorrow morning when it visits the University of Tampa, ranked 45th in the ITA Division II national rankings, at 10 a.m. The Skyhawks have already earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Championships in May as a result of their NE-10 Championship won last fall. Aquinas (8-5, 0-0 WHAC) is at Florida Southern University on Thursday.
