Stonehill Rolls at American International, 8-1


Freshman Emma Prinos earned wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles for the Skyhawks this afternoon.

Prinos leads Skyhawks to bounce back win as double-winner 

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 15, 2014) – Stonehill College, ranked ninth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, bounced back from a tough setback on Tuesday to cruise past American International College 9-0 in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action today.

Freshmen Emma Prinos (Foxboro, Massachusetts/Foxboro) and Victoria Barbetta (Wesley Chapel, Florida/Saddlebrook Prep) as well as junior Meryl Lawrence (North Scituate, Rhode Island/Mount Saint Charles Academy) were all double winners to lead Stonehill, which also collected two points by way of defaults at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. Prinos breezed to a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles against American International sophomore Isabela Daudt (Nova Hamburgo, Brazil) after combining with junior Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Michigan/Marian) for an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles.

Barbetta and Lawrence teamed up for an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles for Stonehill. Barbetta added a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles against sophomore Eleanna Fulop (Anixi-Attiki, Greece), while Lawrence didn't drop a game all afternoon when she contributed a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles against senior Jasmine Byrd (Windsor Locks, Connecticut/Windsor Locks). Freshman Colleen O'Donnell (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) also earned a point for the Skyhawks on the courts with her 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles against senior Chezani Douglas (Hartford, Connecticut/East Hartford).

Junior Ana Paula Simoes (Brasilia, Brazil) won the lone point for American International with a battle past Paradiso 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 at No. 1 singles.

Stonehill (9-2, 9-2 NE-10) returns to the courts on Friday to host rival Bentley University in their regular season finale at Charles Watt Tennis Courts at 3 p.m. The Skyhawks will be seeded third for the upcoming NE-10 Tournament and will host a first round matchup against the No. 6 seed on Tuesday, October 25. American International wraps up its season with a 0-12 record overall and in the NE-10.
