Stonehill Bounces Back at Saint Anselm, 7-2


Freshman Victoria Barbetta posted wins at No. 2 doubles and No. 4 singles.

Freshmen lead the way for Skyhawks 

MANCHESTER, N.H. (October 8, 2014) – Stonehill College bounced back from its first defeat of the season with a 7-2 victory at Saint Anselm College in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action this afternoon.

Freshmen Emma Prinos (Foxboro, Massachusetts/Foxboro), Victoria Barbetta (Wesley Chapel, Florida/Saddlebrook Prep) and Colleen O'Donnell (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) were all double-winners to lead Stonehill to the victory. Prinos and junior Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Michigan/Marian) led a sweep of the three doubles matches with their 8-6 decision at the top flight. Prinos breezed to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles against Saint Anselm sophomore Katie Roberts (South Windsor, Connecticut/South Windsor).

Barbetta and junior Analise Kump (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) rolled to an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles. Barbetta added a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles against junior Kathryn Rindo (Lowell, Massachusetts/Lowell Catholic). O'Donnell and sophomore Amanda DePasquale (Londonderry, New Hampshire/Londonderry) teamed up for an 8-0 shutout win at No. 3 doubles. O'Donnell followed that up with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles against junior Leah Fitzgerald (Bedford, New Hampshire/Lejeune). Sophomore Lorraine Smith (Littleton, Colorado/D'Evelyn) also earned a point for the Skyhawks with her 6-0, 6-0 win over junior Courtney Russell (North Reading, Massachusetts/North Reading) at No. 6 singles.

Freshmen Jess Perkins (Shrewsbury, Massachusetts/Shrewsbury) and Meghan Golden (Scituate, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy) earned singles wins to account for the two Saint Anselm points. Perkins claimed a 6-0, 6-1 win over Paradiso at No. 1, while Golden collected a point at No. 2 after Kump retired while leading 5-2 in the first set.

Stonehill (7-1, 7-1 NE-10) returns to the courts on Saturday when it hosts Merrimack College, ranked sixth in the region, for its Purple & White match on Senior Day at Charles Watt Tennis Courts at 11 a.m. Saint Anselm (4-6, 4-6 NE-10) visits Bentley University on Friday at 3 p.m.
