Lawrence Named NE-10 Player of the Week

North Scituate, Rhode Island, senior captain earns honors for first time 

EASTON, Mass. (October 4, 2014) – Stonehill College senior co-captain Meryl Lawrence (North Scituate, Rhode Island/Mount Saint Charles Academy) was named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week for women's tennis by the league office.

Lawrence, who collected Rookie of the Week accolades once as a freshman, earned her first career Player of the Week selection after reaching the quarterfinal round of the B-Singles draw at the United States Tennis Association (USTA)/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional Championships over the weekend. She breezed to three straight 6-0 victories in the first, second and third rounds before falling to Molloy College's Tatiana Rajaona in the quarterfinals. Lawrence posted victories over Molly Fanelli from Queens in the first round, Christie Catterson from Molloy, who had received a first round bye, in the second and Emily Linhart of Roberts Wesleyan in the third.

Lawrence has posted a combined 14-1 record in singles and doubles play so far in her senior season. She and freshman Colleen O'Donnell (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) are a perfect 6-0 at No. 3 doubles for the Skyhawks this season, while Lawrence is 8-1 in singles, including a 5-0 mark in NE-10 play with a 4-0 clip at No. 5.

Lawrence, a three-time All-Northeast-10 Conference singles performer, has posted a combined 110-34 (.764) over her career at Stonehill, posting a 62-19 (.765) singles record to go with an overall doubles mark of 48-15 (.762). She is a combined 67-6 (.905) over her career in singles and doubles play in Northeast-10 matches, posting a career Conference record of 35-5 (.875) in singles play to go with a 32-1 (.970) career doubles mark in league play. Lawrence, who has been named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll three semesters, and Athletic Director's Honor Roll once, has collected NE-10 All-Championship team honors once over her career in helping the Skyhawks win the 2013 NE-10 Tournament title.

Stonehill (5-0, 5-0 NE-10), ranked ninth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, is back in action on Saturday when it visits Adelphi University, ranked eighth in the region, at 10 a.m. The Skyhawks return home next Saturday, October 11, to host Merrimack College, ranked sixth in the region, at Charles Watt Tennis Courts at 11 a.m.
