Stonehill Defeats Franklin Pierce, 9-0

Skyhawks drop just three games on their way to 6-0 start 

EASTON, Mass. (September 30, 2014) – Stonehill College, ranked ninth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, dropped just three games over 14 sets of play in posting a 9-0 sweep of Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action in the Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex this afternoon.

Junior Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Michigan/Marian) led the double-winners for Stonehill by not dropping a game over her three sets of play today to claim wins at No. 1 singles and doubles. She and freshman Victoria Barbetta (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Saddlebrook Prep) combined for an 8-0 doubles win as the Skyhawks took the three doubles matches by dropping just one game over the three pro-set matches. Paradiso followed with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Franklin Pierce junior Kirby Melbourne (Rancho Santa Fe, California/The Grauer School) in singles play. Barbetta collected a 6-0, 6-1 decision at No. 3 singles against senior Leslie Rodgers (Baltimore, Maryland/Westminster).

Junior Analise Kump (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) and freshman Emma Prinos (Foxboro, Massachusetts/Foxboro) teamed up for an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles for Stonehill. Kump added a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles against freshman Sonia Rodrigues (Swansea, Massachusetts/Joseph Case), while Prinos defeated junior Nicole Gilooly (East Sandwich, Massachusetts/Sandwich) 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4.

Senior Meryl Lawrence (North Scituate, Rhode Island/Mount Saint Charles Academy) and freshman Colleen O'Donnell (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) combined for an 8-0 sweep at No. 3 doubles for Stonehill, while sophomores Lorraine Smith (Littleton, Colorado/D'Evelyn) and Amanda DePasquale (Londonderry, New Hampshire/Londonderry) earned points for the Skyhawks with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.

Stonehill (6-0, 6-0 NE-10) is back in action on Saturday when it visits Adelphi University, ranked eighth in the East Region, for a key Northeast-10 matchup at 10 a.m. The Skyhawks return home on Saturday, October 11, to host Merrimack College in another big match for its Purple & White game at 11 a.m. Franklin Pierce (1-7, 1-7 NE-10) hosts Merrimack on Saturday at 1 p.m.
