Paradiso Named NE-10 Player of the Week

Birmingham, Michigan, junior earns weekly award for fifth time of her career 

EASTON, Mass. (September 24, 2014) – Stonehill College junior co-captain Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Michigan/Marian) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week for women's tennis by the league office.

Paradiso, who earns the weekly honors for the first time this season and fifth in her career, posted a combined 4-0 record in singles and doubles play to lead Stonehill to a 2-0 week. She won both of her matches at No. 1 singles as well as No. 1 doubles along with freshman Victoria Barbetta (Wesley Chapel, Florida/Saddlebrook Prep). Paradiso won both of her singles matches in straight sets, posting a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Alexandra Sharshakov in Saturday's 9-0 win at the University of New Haven and then battling past Erica Bundrick, 6-2, 7-5 in Sunday's 9-0 triumph over Saint Michael's College. Paradiso and Barbetta combined to win both of their doubles matches by 8-2 score lines for the week.

Paradiso is a combined 9-1 in singles and doubles play through five dual matches this season. She is 5-0 for singles, winning all three matches at No. 1 to go with a 2-0 mark at No. 3. She and Barbetta are 4-1 at No. 1 doubles, winning their last four matches heading into this week.

Paradiso, a two-time All-Northeast-10 performer and the first regionally-ranked singles player in program history as a freshman, has posted a combined 83-38 (.686) record over her Stonehill career in singles and doubles play. She has posted a 34-22 (.607) career record in singles play, including a 21-7 (.750) mark in Northeast-10 matches, going 18-12 at the top flight. Paradiso also boasts a 49-16 (.734) career doubles record at the College, including 23-6 (.793) in NE-10 play. Paradiso, an NE-10 All-Rookie team selection as a freshman, earned second team All-Northeast-10 honors at No. 3 doubles along with classmate Analise Kump (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) as a freshman and then collected third team honors for No. 2 singles last season.

Stonehill (5-0, 5-0 NE-10), ranked ninth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, is back in action on Thursday when it hosts Bentley University for a Northeast-10 Conference clash at Charles Watt Tennis Courts at 3 p.m. The Skyhawks will head for Long Island over the weekend to compete at the ITA/USTA East Regional Championships, hosted by Queens College, Saturday through Monday.
