Burinato and Rossetti lead Bears to second straight win
OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (April 6, 2014) – New York Institute of Technology, ranked 11th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II rankings and first in the ITA East Regional rankings, claimed a 9-0 victory over Stonehill College, ranked ninth in the region, in non-conference women's tennis action at the NYIT Tennis Complex today.
Junior Sara Burinato (Barcelona, Spain) and freshman Alessia Rossetti (Minusio, Switzerland) led NYIT as double-winners this afternoon. Burinato, the 21st-ranked singles player in Division II by the ITA, and sophomore Alexandra Borgenhoff (Alingsas, Sweden) teamed up for an 8-0 sweep at No. 2 doubles. Burinato, ranked first in the East Region, added a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles against Stonehill sophomore Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Mich./Marian) that clinched the win for the Bears. Borgenhoff also picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles against freshman Lorraine Smith (Littleton, Colo./D'Evelyn).
Rossetti and freshman Gabriela Siembab (Chrzanow, Poland) completed an NYIT sweep of the three doubles matches with their 8-6 decision over Paradiso and senior Kaitlyn Martin (Mattapoisett, Mass./Medway) at No. 1 singles. Rosetti followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Martin at No. 4 singles.
Stonehill (15-5, 9-1 NE-10) is back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Saint Michael's College their Purple & White match on Senior Day at Charles Watt Tennis Courts at 3 p.m. NYIT (20-5, 8-0 ECC) hosts ASA College next Sunday at 8 a.m.
