Stonehill Cruises Against Bentley, 8-1

Paradiso leads Skyhawks again with wins at No. 1 singles and doubles 

EASTON, Mass. (March 25, 2014) – Stonehill College, ranked ninth in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, remained perfect in Conference play with an 8-1 victory over Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action at Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex this afternoon.

Sophomore Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Mich./Marian) led the way for Stonehill with wins at No. 1 singles and doubles. She teamed up with senior captain Kaitlyn Martin (Mattapoisett, Mass./Medway) for an 8-2 doubles win to lead a sweep of the three doubles matches for the Skyhawks. Paradiso added a 6-3, 6-1 win over Bentley sophomore Ludmila Yamus (Deer Park, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) that clinched the team win. Martin was also a double-winner for Stonehill, adding a 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles against sophomore Brittani Hetyei (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township).

Junior Meryl Lawrence (North Scituate, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) and sophomore Analise Kump (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) rounded out Stonehill's four double-winners. Lawrence teamed up with junior Olivia Schneider (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) for an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles, before Lawrence claimed a 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 win at No. 2 singles against sophomore Catherine Gianino (Burlington, Mass./Burlington). Kump and sophomore Kirsti Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) breezed to an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles and then Kump added a 6-3, 6-0 decision over freshman Rachel Petrini (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) at No. 3 singles. Freshman Lorraine Smith (Littleton, Colo./D'Evelyn) rounded out the Skyhawks point winners with her 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles against junior Melanie Scott (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug).

Freshman Susan Stowe (Hebron, Conn./RHAM) earned Bentley's lone point with an 8-4 pro-set win against Schneider at No. 6 singles.

Stonehill (13-2, 7-0 NE-10) is back in action on Saturday, when it visits American International College for a Northeast-10 Conference match at 1 p.m. The Skyhawks return home on Sunday to host Queens (N.Y.) College, ranked second in the East Region, at 11 a.m. Bentley (6-5, 5-1 NE-10) hosts College of the Holy Cross on Sunday at noon.
