Stonehill Bounces Back Against Minnesota State-Mankato, 7-2


Sophomore Kirsti Toegemann notched wins at No. 1 singles and doubles to lead the Skyhawks today.

Toegemann and Kump lead four double-winners for Skyhawks 

ORLANDO, Fla. (March 11, 2014) – Stonehill College, ranked sixth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, posted a 7-2 victory over Minnesota State University-Mankato in non-conference women's tennis action at Fort Gatlin Tennis Center this afternoon.

Sophomores Kirsti Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) and Analise Kump (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) led four double-winners for Stonehill in the bounce back win. Toegemann and sophomore Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Mich./Marian), the tenth-ranked doubles team in the East Region by the ITA, combined to lead a sweep of the three doubles matches by the Skyhawks with an 8-5 decision at No. 1. Toegemann went on to sweep freshman Melissa Mashburn (Marietta, Ga.) 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles.

Kump and senior captain Kaitlyn Martin (Mattapoisett, Mass./Medway) teamed up for an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles and then Kump added an 8-1 victory at No. 4 singles. Martin was also a double-winner with her 8-5 decision at No. 5 singles. Junior Olivia Schneider (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) rounded out the double-winners for Stonehill with her 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles over freshman Abby Schmidt (Redwood Falls, Minn.) after combining with classmate Meryl Lawrence (North Scituate, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) for an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles.

Junior Shealyn Bakke (Watertown, S.D.) and sophomore Sarah McCann (Owatonna, Minn.) earned points for Minnesota State. McCann topped Paradiso 6-4, 7-6 (9-7) at No. 2 singles, while Bakke defeated Lawrence 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3.

Stonehill (9-2, 5-0 NE-10) returns to action on Wednesday when it faces Aquinas College of Michigan at Lake Cane Tennis Center at 12:30 p.m. The Skyhawks next home match is Thursday, March 20, when they host Assumption College at 3 p.m. Minnesota State (3-10, 2-4 NSIC) faces Radford University tomorrow at 8 a.m.
