Paradiso Earns NE-10 Player of the Week Honors

Birmingham, Mich., sophomore collects weekly award for third time over her career

EASTON, Mass. (October 17, 2013) – Stonehill College sophomore Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Mich./Marian), the 12th-ranked singles player in the East Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's women's tennis Player of the Week by the league office.

Paradiso, who earns the award for the third time in her brief Stonehill career to date, collects the honors for the first time this season after posting a combined 6-0 record in singles and doubles play to lead the Skyhawks to a 3-0 mark over its final week of the fall season. She posted a 3-0 record at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, with two different playing partners, as the Skyhawks rolled to 9-0 wins against College of Saint Rose, Le Moyne College and Saint Anselm College.

Paradiso dropped just three games in three sets of play against Saint Rose, teaming up with senior captain Kaitlyn Martin (Mattapoisett, Mass./Medway) for an 8-1 doubles win, before cruising to a 6-2, 6-0 victory against sophomore Paige Southwick in singles. Paradiso and classmate Kirsti Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) posted an 8-2 doubles win against Le Moyne and then Paradiso followed with a 6-1, 6-2 singles triumph over senior Kristine Kenney. She capped the week by combining with Martin again for an 8-2 doubles win against Saint Anselm before rolling to a 6-0, 6-2 singles win over senior Katherine Morrissey.

Paradiso closed out the fall season with a combined 17-2 record in singles and doubles play. She is 8-1 in singles matches this fall, winning all eight of her dual match contests and posting a 5-0 record in NE-10 play. Paradiso won four matches at both No. 1 and No. 2 singles over the course of the fall season. She also posted a combined 9-1 doubles record with three different playing partners. Paradiso is 2-0 with both Martin and Toegemann, with all four wins coming in NE-10 play at No. 1 doubles, while she and freshman Amanda DePasquale (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) teamed up for a 5-1 record, reaching the round of 16 of the B-doubles draw at the USTA/ITA East Regional, and posting a 4-0 dual match record.

Paradiso, the first regionally-ranked singles player in program history, earned All-Northaest-10 Conference second team honors at No. 3 doubles with sophomore Analise Kump (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) as a freshman and was also named to the NE-10 All-Rookie Team. She and Toegemann are both regionally ranked, giving the Skyhawks two regionally-ranked singles players for the first time in program history. Paradiso collected NE-10 Rookie of the Week accolades five times over her freshman season and she has posted a combined 59-19 (.756) record in singles and doubles play over her career so far. She is 23-13 (.639) in singles matches, including a 13-4 (.765) NE-10 clip, while posting a 36-6 (.857) doubles record, going 16-1 (.941) in NE-10 matches.

Paradiso reached the second round of the championship singles bracket at the 2012 ITA East Regional and later placed sixth in the No. 1 singles bracket at the New England Championships against Division I competition. She combined with former teammate Paige Frost, '13, advance to the B-Doubles bracket semifinals at the ITA East Regional and place fourth at the New England Championships.

Stonehill (7-1, 5-0 NE-10) is off until the spring semester. The remaining schedule will be announced in the coming weeks. The Skyhawks are the defending Northeast-10 tournament champions and have earned five straight NCAA Tournament bids and eight overall.
