Stonehill Notches Important Regional Win Over Holy Family, 6-3

Toegemann and Paradiso lead the Skyhawks as double-winners

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (September 20, 2013) – Stonehill College, ranked fifth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, claimed a key early season regional victory with a 6-3 decision over Holy Family University, ranked tenth in the region, in non-conference women's tennis action at Torresdale Frankford Country Club this afternoon.

Sophomores Kirsti Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) and Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Mich./Marian), Stonehill's two regionally-ranked singles performers, led the way for the Skyhawks as double-winners. Toegemann, the 15th-ranked singles player in the East Region by the ITA, teamed up with senior captain Kaitlyn Martin (Mattapoisett, Mass./Medway) for an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles before posting a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles over freshman Anastasiya Kolodiy (Lviv, Ukraine).

Paradiso, ranked 12th in the East Region, rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles over Holy Family freshman Emerald Adams (White Plains, Md./North Point) after teaming up with freshman Amanda DePasquale (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) for an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles as the Skyhawks took two of the three doubles matches to key the win. Sophomore Analise Kump (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) posted a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles over senior Steicy Castro (London, England) for the Skyhawks, while freshman Lorraine Smith (Littleton, Colo./D'Evelyn) picked up an 8-5 pro-set win over junior Casey Borish (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) at No. 6 singles.

Senior Maja Pantelic (Palic, Serbia) and sophomore Alina Nersesyan (Yaroslavi, Russia) were double-winners for Holy Family. The duo combined to pick up the Tigers doubles point with an 8-5 win at No. 2. Nersesyan added a 5-7, 6-4, 10-8 victory at No. 3 singles over Stonehill junior Meryl Lawrence (North Scituate, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy), while Pantelic recorded a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Martin at No. 5 singles.

Stonehill (2-0, 1-0 NE-10) remains in Philadelphia over the remainder of the weekend as it will compete at the USTA/ITA Division II East Regionals, hosted by Chestnut Hill College, Saturday through Monday. The Skyhawks first home match of the season is scheduled for Thursday, September 26, when they host Post University at Charles Watt Tennis Courts at 3 p.m. Holy Family (1-2, 1-1 CACC) hosts Chestnut Hill on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
